Liam POV
The drive back home was excruciating. Jax sat beside me continuously letting growls out. It was becoming the way he breathed.
Lindsey sat across from me with her hands folded at her lap, back straight, and face neutral. She didn't show fear or apprehension, but I could smell it rolling off her.
The idea of an Alpha mate was pleasing to any wolf. With her being an Alpha herself and me the strongest of all our kind I know her wolf was glowing in pride.
It would be easy to just let our animal side take over. We could not feel any moral obligation to another. Just pure animalistic need to rule, dominate, and fuck. I wanted to let go of my human side after this weekend. Become lost in pure instinct, but my conscience nagged at me.
Could I really just take this little Asian wolf across from me as my mating partner? Let her run the pack as Luna during the day then break her body in new ways every night.
Maverick growled in approval, but when I forced images of our mate in my head it made him whine. He wanted to bury himself in anything in front of him, forcing their submission to us, but as long as the mate bond was in place, it curbed his desire to fuck and conquer.
Jax growled ferociously back at me and I could feel his disapproval of my thoughts. I didn't need to tell him I was considering to take this woman as my Luna and mate. It was written all over my face the way I raked my eyes up and down her body.
"Alpha! Please calm down, you're suffocating me." A little voice hit my ears, pulling me from my thoughts.
I growled at small child and she shuddered in fear. You would think that would make her crawl far away from me, but nope, not this brat, she decided to jump in my lap."It will be ok, Alpha." She hugged me, letting her little head fall to my chest. It did feel nice that someone so small and helpless needed my comfort. My wolf purred to care for the young child. It was my job to protect all those weaker then us, which apparently was everyone except the Lycan Alpha.
"Off little brat." I picked her up and sat her in Jax's lap. "I told you that he is the nice one and not to bother me." I scolded her.
She whined lightly at my disapproval. Her witch side was more prominent in her, but she was still part wolf, part Lycan at that.
"It's ok, little one." Jax petted her head like a dam puppy. "Alpha Liam takes some getting use to, but he actually likes the attention. Don't listen to his words."
"I know Beta Jax. I can feel his comfort protecting me. I like that he is now my Alpha, my ultimate protector. No one will hurt me again. Right Alpha?" Her purple eyes peeked at me, but I didn't answer her. My wolf wanted to reassure the child that no one under my care would ever be harmed. I couldn't give the little brat that satisfaction though.
I simply growled then turned my head out the window. I needed to forget every single person in this car with me. Each had their own special torture that I was burning to remove.
The trees became more dense outside, waking my wolf inside me. We were close to home and the connection to our pack was growing stronger. The road turned to dirt and the ground around us was blanketed in moss and flowers.
My territory was in my family for hundreds of years. We never conformed to the human ways, allowing money and greed to overrule our nature. We respected the earth and survived by taking care of each other.
This way didn't work in every pack. Some Alpha's lost themselves to their power, and some lost themselves to their human greed, while others thrived with stricter, or even more lenient ways. Each pack was unique and some thrived, while others didn't.
