Liam POV
We traveled for hours and I remained silent. Jeremiah's anger was radiating off him that it made everyone feel disgusted with themselves. Werewolves are engrained with a sense of loyalty to any who are more powerful. It what keeps our hierarchy of omega, delta, beta, and alpha in line. We didn't usually feel weak compared to those above us, we felt honored.
The problem was that Lycans were too powerful and everyone was below them. When they led with selfish and cruel intentions we not only were helpless to defend ourselves, but we felt an odd need to follow them.
Jeremiah needed to end Demetrius for once and for all. I wasn't sure how he would be as a leader though. It had to be better than his brother, or even his father. Jeremiah and Riley could get the other Lycans to fall in-line or kill them if they challenged us. I just didn't feel like this was the way to our freedom. It felt like a trap, one I was helplessly stuck in.
After hours of silence Jeremiah finally spoke. "You two will be cloaked by Star when we make our next stop. Your presence can still be detected by witches and even Lycans around the pack house, but only if they are looking for you. Liam you have a connection to my daughter through her wolf. You need to move quickly to find her then remove her from the territory. Star will wait outside the property to help you all escape."
"My daughter?" I asked with my hands in fists. I wasn't leaving her there and I had a feeling that was his intention.
"She has been taking to a coven by the Dark Horse witches. They have many locations around the world. Freya is at the pack house now and will perform a tracing spell. Riley's blood should lead you to her." He spoke quickly but it was full of anger. Jeremiah was hanging by a thread.
"What about you?" Jax asked.
"I will challenge him for his title. Star has one more spell to strengthen me and it should be enough"
"That's it? You're just going to walk in and demand a fight?" I asked annoyed. This was a stupid plan. Demetrius imprisoned him before. He played dirty and didn't care about honor.
"Pretty much."
"You're going to lose and then it will be on Riley to kill him."
"I won't lose and he will die!" The anger in Jeremiah's voice for doubting him was clear.
"Your brother has Mildred by his side. The same woman that weakened you, locked you away, and betrayed you countless times."
Jeremiah didn't say a word in response. I think he believed Freya would be enough to beat Mildred, but she would be useless, maybe even dead by now.
Mildred knew she was working with us and I know she already told Demetrius. Once he sees Freya she will be punished severely. I didn't say anything else though. I knew arguing with a Lycan was pointless. Once their minds were made up there was no changing it.
"At least say goodbye to your daughter before you challenge Demetrius. She will be heartbroken when you die and we need her to end this." I said looking out the window.
I felt Jax reach his hand to mine, but I didn't hold it back. He was always by my side, even in my darkest times. This time I knew it was different. He made it clear we weren't anything anymore.
I didn't expect to be forgiven easily. I also knew I had to do what I did. If Demetrius showed up to my pack and Lindsey wasn't marked he would had killed me or worse, my pack. I did what I had to.
The only thing that mattered now was saving Riley, then finding our daughter. The car fell silent again until we reached a small shack in the middle of nowhere. It was old house, barely standing with little to no furniture inside. Everything was new and clean though.
