"I'm homee!" Satoru's voice could be heard as he stepped inside the apartment, and you gasped, excited. You got up from the couch, rushing over to the front door. "Oh my god, you're home!" You laughed, pulling him in for a hug.
"Woah, that excited?" He chuckled, placing a hand on the small of your back as the other patted your head.
"You're adorable, you know?" He spoke quietly.
"Hmmm, I know..." You giggled, now looking up at him. "I'm so excited to spend the night with you, it's only 6 pm and you're back!"
"Well, what did I tell you, huh?" He grinned. "I'm a man of my word... at least, with you." He then placed both his hands on your shoulders, looking down at you. "So, ready to go out? I got everything planned!"
"Oh my god, yess!!" You laughed, you were ecstatic, and he could see that.
His gaze softened, a guilt begin to pool within him. He had not been giving you enough time recently, but... he was determined to make it up to you.
...
Hours passed, you two had eaten at an amazing restaurant, where you had your first official date, and he was now driving you to a location.
"I think... you might recognize it." He hummed, driving through a suburban part of Tokyo.
"I'm excited... I wonder what it is!"
He laughed, "Well, don't worry, we're...." He now turned a corner, and the view of downtown Tokyo was visible, a body of water separating the two of you from it (hint: go to chapter 39: Late Night Drives).
"Oh, it's beautiful! And I... recognize it... when did we come here?" You squinted, thinking. He chuckled, now stepping out the car, walking over to open the door for you. "Well...? Got an idea?"
"It was during high-school."
"Yes." He took your hand, now guiding you to the railing.
"And... I was in my second, and you in your third!"
"Yup!"
"It was... when.... OH!" The memories now flooded back as you chuckled, looking ahead at the view then up at him. "It was when... we all went out, you illegally drove us around," you giggled, thinking back to the time, "...and gifted me the car too!"
He chuckled, nodding. "Yup! You got it." He took a deep breath, taking in the fresh, crisp air, before looking back at you.
"I've never thanked you."
"Huh? For what?"
"For.... doing everything you do for me. For being there for me when no one else is... For taking care of me, making sure I'm doing good..." He softly smiled, pressing a kiss on your cheek. "You were the only one who checked in on me when Suguru... left, you know? Shoko was obviously also dealing with her own emotions, but... You, even despite having lost Haibara... You still checked in on me." He said in a softer tone, his hand now moving to tuck your hair behind your hair.
"When it really should've been the opposite..." He muttered, "I mean... you actually... lost Haibara. I just... wasn't as close to Suguru anymore..." He sighed, now looking back at the view, his arm wrapping around your shoulder.
"You're like my anchor, in this world, Y/N." He said quietly, a cool breeze in the air as he said that, moving his hair back.
You looked up at him, almost in awe, blushing from everything he had just told you.
Slowly, you wrapped your arms around him, smiling. "You're my anchor too..."
He chuckled, a faint blush on his cheeks as he pulled you in, bear hugging you.
"Good."
You took in his cologne, his familiar yet intoxicating scent. Smiling to yourself, you closed your eyes. This was the moment you had been craving. A sincere, loving moment with Satoru. Where your worries melted away, and... you melted in his arms with them.
"I love you, baby." He whispered, before pressing another kiss, now on the top of your head.
"I know..." You giggled.
He huffed, his hand now moving to lightly smack your butt.
"Oh!" You laughed, "Fine, fine... I love you too, more than you can imagine, 'Toru."
He smiled, looking down at you, before looking out at the view.
Life...
Life is so good, right now...
You're in Satoru's arms, relaxed, cozy.... after so long.
But...
Will it stay this way, forever?
(sorry for the shorter chapters! its mid-term season and i'm trying to crank these out while my brain can still handle it)
(should i start shifting into shibuya arc...?)
