73 | NO LONGER A GHOST

NAYARA SAT DOWN in the dinner that Sam and Bucky had instructed her to do. The two entered one at the time with caps and sunglasses. She held back a smile, but pulled her cap down more. The one that Steve had gifted her.

"Hey." Nayara said cheerfully, happy to see them.

Bucky sat first and passed her a drive. The brunette hid it on her bag. "I found the footage of Steve's death. It's blurry but it's something. He then pulled up a file and passed it to her. "Sharon burned her entire trail before disappearing and we can get a trace of her here. She is a ghost." Bucky explained to her.

"You will think he will be able to find her being a ghost himself." Sam said to her, giving a pointed look to Bucky who glared at him.

"There's more, she was brainwashed by Dr. Faustus like you said. He has been working with HYDRA and against Captain for a while. He just used an alias to infiltrate SHIELD." Bucky said to her.

Nayara frowned. "Which will work given that SHIELD is compromised." Nayara added. "Not that Maria Hill will do something. What happened to Nick Fury?" Nayara asked them.

Sam was the first one to speak. "He went MIA. Nobody knows where he is. It was just before the war." Sam informed her.

"That's somebody who you wouldn't be able to find unless he wants to be found." Nayara said. She looked down at the file of Sharon Carter and sighed.

"You seem to know an awful lot about SHIELD and HYDRA for someone like yourself." Bucky added with a suspicious look. She wasn't given the whole story, but he too had a past so he wasn't one to judge.

Nayara coughed, hiding her worries. "As I told you Barnes, I know stuff. So did Steve." Nayara informed him.

"The thing is if Sharon Carter was brainwashed, and you prove it. She will be forgiven." Sam pointed out. 

"Not necessarily." Bucky reminded them.

"She should be responsible for her actions. I think there are an awful lot of people who will like her in jail just as much as me." Nayara said to them. "Brainwashed or not she killed Steve Rogers. Plus, it should have faded out eventually. I don't know how long it lasts but Bucky was able to pull through." Nayara informed them.

Bucky frowned even more, wondering how on earth she knew about HYDRA and what they had done to him. Was she a part of them before? He doubted it, couldn't find a thing about her past not even on SHIELD's radar.

Nayara paled a bit, seeing Bucky's unsure eyes. "Either way, if this video gets out maybe it could prove your innocence Bucky." Nayara said to them.

"I have a lot to pay for." Bucky said to her.

"That's what forgiveness and amends are for. You can't change the past, but you can change the future." Nayara pointed out.

Sam gave her a look. "We doubt we could be forgiven. If it did, it will involve registering and giving away our freedom and our identities." Sam reminded her. "Plus, he works better in the shadows." He added.

Nayara looked down at the file and back at them. "There is more isn't." Nayara said.

Sam shared a look with Bucky. "We went to the last known spot of Sharon Carter. There was a machine of sorts, but everything exploded, there is nothing else. We thought you could bring it up to Stark. He could figure it out." Bucky added.

Nayara stiffen, knowing the truth behind the machine. "I will look into it." She lied and Bucky saw right through.

As they were all of the three leaving, Bucky grabbed Nayara's arm. "What's really going on?" Bucky asked her.
