“Huh!? You have an idea where the treasure is!?”
“Yes. If we assume that Sato–San has self–destructive desires deep down then this may be a plausible conclusion.”
“What do you mean?”
“Thinking back… There was an odd obsession both these Shadows had.”
“You mean killing the ruler?”
“Yes. And what did they keep mentioning a few times?”
“To… Cut off his head… Wait a moment, you mean—”
“It’s possible that these things could be related. After all, isn’t it odd that we found no hints about the treasure’s whereabouts? Nor were there any indications that there are any secret passages. And if he aims to trigger a mental shutdown by himself then the treasure might not be far away from him either.”
“I mean it is easy to assume but—”
“Not just that but there was some faint light his head was surrounded by. Didn’t you notice?”
“Huh… Well, now that you mention it… There was, yeah. So Sato–San’s shadow has the treasure?”
“Yes. I think that is our best bet. So be prepared to actually fight him if we want to steal it from him.”
To Lukanja it sounded a little absurd yet Akechi had made a point there. It was something. It was impossible to ignore the obsessive nature in regards to the head. How it had to be cut off. One of the Shadows had said it enough times that it was almost annoying to hear. And there might be some significance to it. If slicing it then it may be a guaranteed death, a quick one. The mental shutdown in the real world would follow only shortly after. It was a perfect plan, almost too perfect. And keeping the treasure somewhere on his body… It would mean to take it from him, defeat him… And a battle could result in the Shadow’s death if not careful enough. He really wanted to go all out, didn’t he? It was worrisome. And while a theory something seemed to click at the very least. They couldn’t argue against it and they were not going to try. It just made too much sense in their head.
Yet that also meant that the treasure was hidden within the dungeon itself, And the only possible path the trio knew about was the door the jailor was busy guarding. A simple suggestion would be to search for a different passageway, figure out if there was another entrance hidden somewhere. Yet just like the search for the treasure nothing came up. They all revisited the rooms and even went through the hallways once more. But nothing. Even when pushing the walls and kicking the floor, nothing would move. No clues about a secret way either. Nor could one see any cracks or holes leading anywhere. Nothing, absolutely nothing. It was sealed off, isolated from everything else. Was this really the only way? Yet that was the simplest conclusion to draw, the only conclusion they could draw honestly. As stubborn as they wanted to be about this, even they had to admit defeat eventually. There was literally no other way, unfortunately. It was frustrating. So much so that Swan themself leaned against the wall with crossed arms, or the remains of a wall.
“So what this is basically going to be is that we will have to fight that jailor, right?” They asked, already not liking the idea. Things were never easy but this was so straightforward that it was also frustrating. It came down to endurance at that point.
