Emma

"It's done." Kaito murmured in my ear as he slipped into the seat beside me.

He'd snuck in halfway through class to deliever this news. Yakagri sensei clearly didn't care if his students came in late or not. Our teacher continued to teach his lesson no matter how many times he was inturrupted.

"The dance will be next Tuesday." my boyfriend informed me. "It'll be a formal dance. The headmaster agreed quickly to your plan. He'd rather have this business done and over with than wait for an attack to come. He's tired of waiting."

I nodded. "Of course he does." I replied. "He doesn't want what happened the two years before this new building happening again. This time he wants to be on top of the situation, not waiting for his opponet to strike out of the shadows."

Kaito frowned, knowing what I said was true but still not one-hundred percent in on my plan. I hoped he would come to see my idea was good soon.

"Let's just hope we're a step ahead of our opponets and not falling into their palms." My boyfriend said instead, staring glumly ahead.

We stayed in class the entire time, pretending to listen to Yagari. Although all of us were playing the good students, I could tell everyone was watching one another. With the recent student kidnappings and no suspect, vampires everywhere were jumpy. The couples sat next to one another to keep an eye on their partner. Even the loners were huddling together in a little section of their own in the back of the room. The various powers of the purebloods and nobles could be felt crackling in the air, just threatening the other to try and attack them.

A book slamming on a desk jarred us all out of our trances.

"Listen," Yagari sighed, his one hand still laying on his reading book he always carried around. "I can't teach class to a bunch of students whose nerves are all over the place. Not to say I care for you vampire folk, but it was much easier when you actually shut up and paid attention to me." he lectured. "I know some of your are worried about the kidnapper and other are scared silly. Headmaster Cross and I would tell you if it was a real threat. Luckily for you, it's only a slight nuisance to us."

The room was completely silent and focused while he talked. Everyone's eyes had been drawn to him by the ruckus. His talking had calmed their nerves.

Yagari grumbled before finally speaking. "And to make you guys feel like school life hasn't changed, Headmaster Cross has agreed to throw a Fall Fete Tuesday night. The theme of this dance is Autumn colors." he announced. "I'll be one of the chaperones there, so you won't have any worry. Class dismissed."

The bell rang, cuing that it was time for us to take our daily break from classes. Kaito and I stood up from our seats and walked out with the others. I noticed Yagari was watching as everyone left. He seemed tired and overworked.

Outside the classroom, the sound of the vampire student's feet shuffling could be heard acrossed the school. Although our sensei's words had cheered some of the class up, it hadn't lasted. A kidnapper was still out there.

I let out a huff in frustration. "What are they afraid of?" I asked Kaito on the side. "We're vampires. Most of us purebloods and nobles. Why can't they see that we have the advantage over the perpetrator?"

"Because Kogeta didn't." My boyfriend replied in a whisper. "As a telepath, he had a sixth sense to keep an eye out for himself. When his power failed, the others wavered. They began to think 'what if my ability doesn't work against the villain too?' . Now they're all paranoid."

"Which means everyone will probably be staying in on Saturday and Sunday out of fear." I muttered tiredly.

"Most likely." Kaito agreed.

Saturday morning, I woke to the sound of someone knocking at my bedroom door. I opened my eyes and checked the clock in my room. It read seven fourty five AM. What could anyone want this early in the day?

I got out of bed and trudged to the door. If it was Kaito, I could probably forgive him. Anyone else better have a good reason why they were waking me up.

"Hey, Emma!" Arashi cheered behind the looming figure of Toran standing in front of him.

"We were wondering if you'd like to go into town." Toran himself asked me. "The kidnapper---whoever he is---wouldn't risk anything during the daytime. Not when I can burn off all his protective clothing."

"Assuming he's a vampire." Hana snorted in the background.

I folded my arms across my chest. "Does Kaito know you're doing this?" I asked.

"Yes." Arashi and Toran chimed while Hana scoffed a single, "No."

I stood back and thought this through. If they went by themselves without me, Kaito could get them in serious trouble with the Headmaster. If I went with them, Kaito would freak out because he wouldn't be able to find me on campus. That would also save the others from his wrath because his worry would completely encompas me. However, that still meant that Kaien Cross would still be angry with the nobles and myself. There wasn't a way to win no matter how I played it.

"Fine." I muttered, shutting the door so I could change. I got a sneak peek at Toran grinning before the gap closed.

With a sigh, I walked over to my standing closet and donned the pair of jeans, skirt, and T-shirt I had saved from my old things. They were from my life before becoming a vampire. I dressed in these and found a coat, scarf, boots, and gloves to go along. When I emerged from my room, everyone was all smiles. I rolled my eyes at them before walking down the hall.

"Yay!" someone familar cheered in the back of the group. "We're going on an adventure!"

"You invited Keirrin, didn't you?" I guessed, throwing a glare at Toran.

He threw his arms up in the surrender pose as we approached the stairs. "Hey, if I didn't let her come, she was going to tell." he said in his defence.

"Whatever." I sighed as I went down the first step. "As long as she doesn't get in the way."

"Yippee!" Keirrin cried at the back of the group.

"If she doesn't get quiet soon, we're going to be caught before we get off of campus." I muttered on the side to Arashi and Toran. Frustrated looks on their faces told me they agreed.
