Emma

Tuesday night after classes, I still hadn't seen hide nor hair of Kaito.

Toran and Arashi had continued to act ornery the rest of the night, sneeking around like they were a bunch of crooks in the Moondorm lobby. As I went up the stairs, Violet passed me going down. Her eyes were glued to the floor and she looked helplessly lost in her own thoughts. I continued climbing upwards, knowing that my advice couldn't help anymore. Only Kogeta's voice would bring her out of the spell she was in.

I retired to my bedroom where I dressed into my nightgown that went to my thighs. With Kaito gone, I didn't have a reason to stay up and listen to the others in the dorm lobby. Plus, I was plum exhausted of Keirrin. I'd barely managed to escape her claws when she had caught up with me in the line walking back to the Night class's half of the campus. When I had seen her coming, I had picked up my walking pace, which made her walk faster, which made me walk faster, until both of us were speed walking to the iron gates. Laying on the soft bed now felt nice, and I intended to sleep the entire day away.

A window opened downstairs, causing me to wake. Normally, I didn't stir for these kind of things, but this was Autumn. The wind that came into the building was cold. I could tell because of my powers, but that wasn't the only reason why I had woke. It was in the middle of the day, when the Day class students should all be in class. The Night class students should all be sleeping by now too. I didn't think any of them would stay up passed noon.

I got up and threw on a robe from my wardrobe, tying the ribbon around my waist so that it didn't slide open. After checking my appearance in the mirror, I deemed that I was descent. I exited my bedroom and went to the stairs, going down to the first floor where I sensed the cold air enter the dorm. The perpetrator had entered through the kitchen if I wasn't mistaken. I made my way to that side of the building, walking quietly on the wooden floor. I didn't want them to know I was here if they weren't friendly.

The hallway leading up to the Moondorm kitchen was dark, but the kitchen itself was lit with artificial light. I could hear someone moving inside and something metal clanging. I stepped into the doorway.

"Yu...Yuki?" I muttered, not used to seeing her ever approach a kitchen. She was dressed in an apron with flour caked all over it.

"Oh....hi Emma." She replied nervously, bringing her hand to her face. In result, a patch of flower was left behind.

I watched her and blinked when she didn't explain herself. "So....what are you doing in the kitchen?" I asked, looking at the array of pots, pans, and ingredients she had gotten out.

"I kinda sorta promised Ruka I'd bake her cake for her birthday." Yuuki admitted, her face reddening except for where the bit of flour was.

"Why?" I inquired.

"It's more cost efficient to make a home-made cake than go out and buy one." She stood up for herself, gaining her confidence back. "I told her I'd be able to make it during the day--easily. By the time night fell again, the cake would be finished and ready for the party."
