Rose~n~Thorn Vampire: Chapter 16

Emma

"I didn't tell you everything last time......" Jarred began, a bit nervous."I know something about Shizuka Hio that no other pureblood knows of."

His words grabbed my attention imediately. This could be the source of information I'd been waiting for. The one that would save Zero.

"So what is it?" I asked, nervously moving in my chair.

"Shizuka Hio, she went to many parties...." He started.

That piece of information was obvious. That's all I'd been able to find about her, but I didn't inturrupt him.

"....especially ones our father held. For a short time, our parents let her stay at our mansion in the guest room. She rarely came out of the room and always showed up where you wouldn't expect her. I'd see her in her room and then find her in the library."

He took a breath and moved on.

"I was little back then and you hadn't even been born at this time. It took me a while to figure out what was happening. The reason why she stayed in her room and rarely moved around. Why she wore so much clothing when it wasn't cold inside. It was because our father had had an affair with her." Jarred stated and let the words sink in to me.

"So father had a child with her?" I summed up.

"Yes. It didn't occur to me what had happened until a several years ago, when I became older and wiser. However, I didn't think it mattered anymore because of the fire and my family was dead so I kept my mouth shut."

"So who is the heir? Do you know their name at least?" I asked, sounding a bit desperate.

"Father kept Shizuka's baby girl. The woman didn't want to stain her name, so she left it with him. That way, it would just look like he had had another affair with one of the many pureblood girls. She knew he would never reveal the name of the mother, so everything was set. Shizuka left the mansion a month after the girl was born and she was able to travel again."

"The girl was allowed to live at our mansion. Even though she wasn't Marionette's daughter, my mother loved her like she was her child. The only family link she shared with us was her ice blue eyes that our family shares on my father's side. Other than that, she completely looked like Shizuka's child. The same white hair, the pale translucent skin, doll-like features. It was obvious, just like with Elizebeth, that she wasn't a Nakamura child. Children born in my father's lineage have bluish black hair and ice blue eyes. Maddison and I were the perfect examples."

Jarred left his words hang in the air, waiting for my reply. I had already begun to figure out what he was leading on to, but I didn't think it could be true. Everything he was describing was so perfect as if he was staring at Shizuka's child.

At me.

"I...I'm the heir?" I stuttered, shocked to my core.

All this time of looking wasted because the person I was looking for was myself. I couldn't believe it.
