Rose~n~Vampire: Chapter 23

Emma

When I heard more footsteps from behind me, I was shocked. I turned around, not in any hurry, to see who it was. To my surprise it was a group I had never seen before. There were nine of them all together.

There were five guys and four girls. The one guy with dark brown hair and brown eyes seemed to be the leader.

"Zero." the leader said.

But Zero wasn't looking at the leader. He was looking at the girl behind him with wide eyes.

"Yuuki." Zero muttered out with hopefully desperation.

"Zero!" She yelled out in response, but when she noticed me she stopped her advance.

So this was the girl that broke Zero's heart. I thought to myself coldly. Was she trying to break his heart into a million pieces?

There was a short pause inbetween Yuuki's exclamation in which Zero glanced between me and her like he was torn.

I attempted a weak smile then:"I'll just go on ahead." I said to Zero and then turned around and ran, a tear coming out of the corner of my eye.

He probably could hear the weakness in my voice and the twist of pain on my face, heck I could even feel and hear it when I had tried to cover it up. But I didn't care. I just ran.

"I'll just go on ahead." Emma said with a pain that seemed even deeper than mine some how.

I went to open my mouth, but when I saw a small tear come out of the corner of her eye I gave up. No words would help right now. And I needn't embarress her over the mess in front of Kaname Kuran.

"Why are you here?" I said with a angry raspiness in my voice, dirrecting my question at Kaname.

"To finish our education." Kaname answered smuggly.

"Yeah right." I voiced aloud.

"Zero, who was that girl?" Yuuki asked in an innocent voice.

I knew the minuted she aked the question she meant what kind of relationship I had with her.

"She's a new perfect." I responded. But I really couldn't call her new anymore, the response was just to satisfy Yuuki.

"Oh." She let out a pleasant sigh."Zero..." she began but was cut off by Kaname.

"We'll see you during the conference." he said.

I gave an angry huff and then turned around. I walked without looking back and Yuuki did nothing to stop me.

I didn't really know why a tear had came out of the corner of my eye. One part of me thought it was because I didn't want to see him get hurt for a third time. Another part thought it was because maybe I really did like Zero more than Kaito. But I knew he wouldn't accept me now.

I walked down the long hallways during my regular patrol of the night. There weren't many vampires out as usual. Maybe they sensed the tension of a different group was here and decided to stay out of it. Or maybe Jarred and Kaito had ordered some of their followers to stay behind. Either way it left the hallway empty and vacant feeling.

My footsteps echoed behind me omniously.
