Zero and I walked at a slow pace. We weren't thrilled at the thought at the headmaster punishing us. I didn't think the headmaster had it in him to punish us anyways. He was always in a happy-gay mood or very friendly. It just wasn't possible for me to see him mad or angry. Even at the one time Toran and Arashi got in trouble he had jarred punish them. That got me thinking. What had been Toran's and Arashi's punishment?
I thought of these things as we walked down the long hallway until we reached the large wooden doors of the headmaster's office. I glanced a look at Zero the same time he looked over at me. Then he turned to face the door and gave three small knocks.
"Come in." said a voice that was clearly displeased.
Zero opened the door and walked in first. I followed close behind. We stopped a few feet from the doors, not wanting to get any closer than necessary. The headmaster was sitting in his chair facing the window. He slowly turned around so that we could see him fully. There was a calm expression on his face, but I could see deeper than that. His face was concealing the fuming anger that he was holding back for now.
I gave a small gulp and reminded myself to breath. Zero looked at the wall, not even daring to look at the headmaster straight on like I had. The headmaster looked straight back at me, his expression not even changing a bit. I stayed locked on to his eyes because fear had frozen me there. He took in a large gulp of air and then released it slowly and after a few seconds, began to talk.
"Do you mind telling me what you were up to?" the headmaster said, his voice firm.
A slight pause made the room haunting.
"We went to town." Zero said, still focused on the wall.
"Is that all?" the headmaster pressed. It didn't sound like a question at all.
"And had ice cream sundays." Zero added.
The headmaster's gaze lightened a little. He wasn't expecting that answer. Zero sensed that and explained in five words.
"We were on a date."
That caused my cheeks to blush at the sound of the word date. Zero's face was perfectly composed. Practically emotionless.
"A date?" the headmaster asked, his tone more friendly than before.
Zero didn't answer. I turned to face the other wall away from Zero, my left arm gripping my right at the elbow behind my back.
"I see." The headmaster said, a small sigh escaping his lips at the end.
I braced myself for the punishment of this afternoon's actions. Zero seemed to tense as the silence continued on. I snuck a look at the headmaster and his expression through a look of shock across his face. Zero peeked at my expression and looked at the headmaster as well.
The headmaster, Kaien Cross, had a smile across his face. His eyes were closed tight and he was smiling.
I could just see Kogeta's face now. A wtf expression was most likely all across it. He had been wanting to see us get in trouble. I gave a small laugh to myself too small for the headmaster to see, but maybe Zero had noticed it. He did say I was an open book to him. I took a glance in his direction. One of the corners of his mouth was turned up the tiniest bit. He was thinking the same thing I was.
"You couldn't wait for tomorrow Zero?" the headmaster asked, a smile still across his face.
Zero finally looked at the headmaster."No......Why?" he asked suspiciously.
"Today is Friday. You could have taken Emma out tomorrow." he said calmly.
I had known it was Friday all along. It was my favorite day because that meant the weekend was next. My gaze zipped over to Zero's face to see it just in time. He was bewildered. He must of had no idea what day it was. His hand went to his hair and he scratched his head in an embaressed way.
