I could hardly believe what had happened. Koien had decided to switch to our side after all, but the price had been high. It had been obvious from the beginning he had some kind of relationship with Annie. Enough to freeze him in his tracks and get her to cry.

He had shot her right through the heart so she wouldn't be coming back. Slowly his hands lowered themselves to his side.

"You did the right thing." Kaito muttered, trying to find words of comfort for him.

Koien's legs gave out on him and he fell to the ground to his knees.

"Then why does it hurt so much?" He wheezed, hardly able to make himself talk.

The gun fell out of his hand and onto the cold, polished stone floor. It made a clacking sound.

"I never wanted her to die." He said weakly.

"I know." Kaito said.

With those two words I felt as if I had missed something. Whatever had happened between these two, I was clearly not apart of it. I hung back, silently waiting to be filled in on the situation.

"Why would you do something like this for her?" my lover said, trying to get to the bottom of what had just happened.

"You know that all three of us were playmates when we were little, although our parents forced it upon us." Koien began.

That reminded me of one of the things I had learned during my party to celebrate my 're-awakening'. Vampires from Kaname Kuran's group had discussed the reason why they were part of their pureblood's group. Because their parents had forced them together when they were little. Things began to fall into place now. Had Koien and Annie been canidates for Kaito's future group a long time ago, but had been rejected?

"When your parents stopped letting Annie and I over, my parents and hers kept us together---hoping that we would develope feelings for one another later on. From the start though, I knew Annie liked you more than me. I tried to do my best to get her to like me more. In result I became more of a brother than a lover to her." Koien explained.

"I rejected her though when my mother and father decided that it was time I got a fiance. She was one of the first on their list of canidates that I said no to. It must have crushed her." Kaito said, filling in the blanks.

"Yes. It did. That just gave me hope she would give up on you, but all it did was strengthen her feelings. I think she was literally maddly in love with you." He replied.

A silence went between them, both of them with solem looks on their faces.

"So what are you going to do now?" Kaito asked.

"I don't know. Go back to my parents?" He said, then thought aloud."Although they'd probably just throw me out now after they hear about this." Koien said, gesturing to the whole room.

"Probably." Kaito agreed with him.

"In that case why don't you join Kaito's group." I spoke up.

It seemed that I had been all but forgotten during their discussion. Their heads turned back to me and then Koien looked back at Kaito.

"You mean it?" He asked solemly.

"Of coarse. You're family to me." Kaito said, going with my idea.

"I'm sorry for my....rudeness earlier...." Koien apologized.

"No problem. My mother was wanting to remodel this room. She just needed an excuse." Kaito said.

Koien chuckled a bit, but his face still remain solem for the one he lost. His face suddenly turned to me.
