Emma
"Emma," Kaito paused to kiss me on my cheek, "It's time for school."
I groaned. I didn't want to go. I squeezed my eyes shut and pulled the covers tightly around myself. There was one thing I wanted to know however.
"Is Keirrin okay?" I asked sleepily.
"Well, that's a strange thing to ask." my boyfriend hummed.
He stood beside the bed with his arms crossed, looking down at me. I was still in bed with my nightgown. The only reason why I opened my eyes was to tell him I was serious.
"She's fine." Kaito answered once he saw my look. "Now are you going to get up or lay around?" he inquired with a demanding tone.
"I'll get up. But first tell me---is Kogeta getting any better?" I yawned.
"No." Kaito sighed, uncrossing his arms. "Worse, actually. He refuses to be around people. His defence is that everyone is trying to rush him into remembering the impossible."
"He's claiming he can't remember any more." I filled in the gap.
Kaito nodded. "Precisely."
"And do you believe him?" I asked.
"No." my boyfriend stated with confidence.
I let out a long breath and sat up in bed. "Then we should force him to tell us the truth." I told him. "Arrange some kind of social event. Everyone who wants to kill me usually likes to show up to them. We might as well give them an open ended inventation." I shrugged.
"You're kidding.....right?" Kaito hoped. I could tell in his eyes he really didn't think it was a good idea---but that was his concern looking out for me. His practical, planning side was being shoved off to the side.
"Hey, at least it'll be on our own grounds and rules this time. Home Turf. They can't beat us here." I argued.
"I really don't think..." he murmured.
"No, you don't." I butted in. "Not when your feelings for me are overturning your common sense. Trust me on this one. I know what I'm doing."
Kaito looked into my eyes, searching for something. He must have found it because he agreed. "Okay, I'll let you throw this social ball." he gave in. "But what excuse can we use to have a large party? Ruka's birthday already passed, so it's not like we can plan it on an exhisting event."
"That's would have been mean." I countered, but moved on in the conversation. "We can argue with Headmaster Cross that the school could use some change. A new yearly dance would do the academy some good."
Kaito shook his head. "Yeah, I can see him falling for that."
"We can call it 'The Fall Fete'." I added.
"Sounds good." My boyfriend smiled, then left for the door. "I'll get right on it. In the meantime---you get ready for school."
I grumbled, but none the less got up to change once the door closed behind him. I changed into the regular Night Class Uniform and headed downstairs.
Like I thought, Kaito had zoomed off to go tell the Headmaster right away. Kaname Kuran gave a lazy glance at me this morning. It was an inquiring gaze. He was guessing that we were up to something by the way my boyfriend was acting. Well, I'd let him think all he wanted. I had no reason to get into a debate with him.
I looked away and turned to my own group. Everyone by Kogeta was present. Typical. At least in recent standards. Kogeta used to always be the first one up. He made sure everyone's schedules ran smoothly and we had a somewhat pleasant day. Now he was a ghost of his past self.
"Is Kaito alright?" Koien asked me. "He ran off in a hurry."
I turned towards my boyfriend's cousin. Of course he would pick up on Kaito's anxiousness and my concern. He could read people's emotions. I couldn't lie to him either. He'd detect that too.
"Yes and no." I answered. "Yes, he's okay physically. Mentally, he's exhausted."
Koien frowned. "I hope this problem goes away soon."
"So do I." I sighed in agreement.
We waited until it was time for classes to start. Then, everyone got in their lines. We marched through the tunnel the Day Class made for us every evening. How simple their lives were compared to ours. They didn't have to worry about killers, backstabbers, or crazy cousins. Ignorance truely was bliss.
I pulled my thoughts away from them and focused on the school day. It was no use thinking about if(s) and could have(s).
