RoseThorned Vampire: Chapter 8

I woke up in the morning to find three servants waiting for me. They came into the room, each one taking a different task. The first one placed me at a chair in the room and checked my arm. It was perfectly healed and didn't have a single mark on it. The second girl went to make the bed after I was moved to the chair. The third girl went over to the standing closet and was making sure all the dresses were in proper order.

I watched as she browsed through them and then selected one out for me. It was a scarlett red dress with white frilly trim and a hint of black ribbon. It reminded me of a dress that a porcelin doll would wear. The dress even included white stalkings and the shiny black shoes with buckles on them. Once the girl who had been taking a look at my arm finally decided that it was in perfect health, the third girl help me get into it.

The middle part of the dress was black and it had strings on the back. These were pulled tight then tied into a bow in the back. It made me stand up straight in perfect posture. After the girl had checked me over and smoothed out the dress on me she left the room as did the other girls without giving me any instruction. I did a quick brush of my hair and then figured I was on my own to wander around the house.

I left my room and went down the hall wandering around the large mansion. It didn't occure to me to take in my surroundings so I didn't get lost, so I found myself in a part of the house that I didn't recognize from yesterday. I walked carefully around looking for anything that I might remember. I stopped when a maid whipped open a door and stormed into the hallway going right in front of me.

She was in a black maid's dress with a white apron like all the other servants of the house. The only thing wrong was that she was soaked to the bone in water. She grumbled and yelled something out in french and went down the hallway in the opposite dirrection of me. From the still-opened door I heard a little girl's michevious giggling. At that moment I knew that I had stumbled upon Maira's bedroom.

Causiously, not wanting to fall for the same trap as the maid did in my borrowed dress, I made my way into the little girl's room. I found that it reminded me of a giant toy box. There was a large bed off to the left which had a huge pink, puffy bedspread on it with tons of stuffed animals. Off to the corner in the right was a mound of anywhere from giant to minature stuffed animals of all kinds. At the wall where the door was at to the left was a more stuffed animals. There was also other furniture items like a standing closet for the girls clothes which were strung all around it and a vanity mirror that had lip stick smeared on it.

The mess that had cause the maid to be soaked was at my feet. It was a puddle of water that had a plain metal bucket laying in the middle of it. The dull grey bucket was still wobbling which indicated it hadn't been long since the little girl had pulled the prank. Maira herself was sitting in the pile of dresses near the standing closet clutching a stuffed bunny with red lipstick all over her face. Even though I knew she had done this on purpose to bother the maid, which I was very sorry for, I couldn't help but laugh when I saw the makeup all over her face.

Maira giggled some more and then, naughtily, picked up a white dress from the floor and whipped her face on it. The result was she had a clean face, but now the dress had red and hot pink stains all over it. She let the dress fall on her lap and then stood up. The dress slid to the floor in its stained, white mess and she stepped over it.

"Wanna play a game?" the little vampire child asked me sweetly, sounding a bit dark.

"What kind of game?" I asked her nervously, my voice faltering. I forced myself to smile but I was sure it looked twisted.

"Hide-and-go-seek tag." The little girl said innocently. Looking up at me with big puppy dog eyes.

"Sure, why not?" I said. If I refused I was afraid that she would cry.
