Finally it was the weekend and that meant no classes. Students were allowed to do whatever they want as long as they were on school premises or at the small town. The town was very old, with buildings that looked like they have been abandoned for several centuries. Only 56 people called this town their home. Most of the residents made money by running little shops for Cross Academy students and passer-byers.

The shops made up the good part of town. This was the some-what newer section of the town.Meaning it was still old, but it looked like people at least attempted to make it look nice. The old section of town was mostly sectioned off. Constrution workers over the past two years had been walling off the ways so that students wouldn't get lost. But their had been rumors about the real reason.

My friends, Sam and Risa, and I decided that we would go and look around in the shops. We were on the bus that ran students to and from the village every few hours. When we arrived we checked out a clothing store and an antique store. Both were boring, but most of the stores were like that around here. At the one and only resturant in town we decided to have dinner.

"I wonder what's with everyone" Risa said while chewing part of her hamburger. She never did have good table maners.

I looked out the window to see a large group of Cross Academy students in a crowed. All of them seemed to have some worried look on their faces.

"Let's go" said Sam.

We finished our hamburgers and stepped outside the resturant.

"I wonder if they'll be okay?" asked a junior girl with blonde hair.

"Maybe.....ummm, maybe we should go look for them" said another girl with short brown hair.

Most of the group of students went on worrying like this and saying stuff simular to the two girls who spoke out.

"What happened?" said Sam. Sam and Risa started to get worried faces, and I did too.

"Two freshmen girls went missing a little bit ago. Their friends haven't been able to find them. We think they went into the old section of town. They must have not been listening to the rules about visiting the town." the blonde replied.

"Then we should look for them" said Risa. There was confidence on her face and in her voice.

"The old section of town is like a maze. There's no telling what way they went in,.......plus the rumor, you know?" the short brown hair girl said.

"What rumor?" I asked. Even though I was a junoir, this was my first year at Cross Academy.

"You don't know?" the blonde girl said. She looked puzzled. "Ohh, yeah, right. This is your first time at the academy" she said.

Thanks for rubbing it in, I thought.

"So" she said in a high voice."There's this rumor that monsters inhabit the old section of town" she said in a low, mysterious voice.

"What kind of monsters?" piped a young, freshman girl.

"Be quiet" the blonde snapped. Her voice returned to a normal tone: " I don't know, no one has ever seen them and lived to tell the tale." she paused for dramatic effect. Some girls let out a frightened gasp. " Anyways" she said in her high voice, rolling her eyes at the freshman girl and returning her gaze to me."These monsters suposively live in the old section of town and only come out at night to feed on wondering Cross Academy students." she said in her mysterious voice again. One girl gave a frightened shiver.

"How come you say monsters?" the same freshman girl piped again.

"I SAY monsters because I SAY monsters" the blonde said in an agitated voice. "What else could they be?"

"No,.....I mean, Why do you say there are more than one monster if you say no one's ever seen them?" she said the last part smuggly. I think she was trying to get the blonde back for embaressing her.

"It's true no one's ever seen them, BUT" the blonde said in a voice of warning so the freshie girl wouldn't interupt her." A person with a medical degree came the first time it happened and he said, from looking at the remains of the student, that the amount of damage and the clues suggest that it was done with help with more than one person." she paused, then added in her low voice," Or thing". More girls let out a gasp this time than the first. Most were freshman.

My friend Risa ignored this fact and said in her silly announcer voice:

"Time to find us some missing Freshie students!"

"Really? We have to go?" said Sam. Meaning her and me.

"All for one and one for all" Risa said. " We're like the musketeers, we can't be seperated!" Risa acted though she was hyped up on sugar, but I know what she was trying to do-----she was trying to lighten the mood.

"But we're NOT the musketeets, idiot" Sam said teasingly.

"But we're a team." Risa countered.

"There's a ME in team, and this Me is going to get her butt on the last bus to the academy." said Sam jokingly. Several girls around her let out a laugh.

"Your not literally that cold hearted, are you?" Risa said this in her fake sad voice sporting a puppy dog face.

"Fine, I'll go." Sam said reluctantly."What about you Emma?" she asked in a bit more cheerful voice.

I considered the possiblities of this turning out okay. Go into scary maze, risk butt for stupid Freshie students, possibly meet carnivorous monsters.

"Sure!" I said sarcastically. There's no such things as monsters I told myself.

I would later regrett my decsion.
