"My name is Kaien Cross, headmaster of Cross Academy. This is Zero, and as you probably already know, he is my adopted son." the headmaster praised.
"No I'm not." Zero's muffled voice said.
He had moved from standing on my right by the other leather chair to my left leaning against the wall. I didn't remember hearing him moving there. Surely there would have been a noise from him walking across the wooden floor.
The headmaster gave a little huff and continued on.
"And you are my dear?" the headmaster said, turning to face me.
"Emalene. Emma for short." I said confidently, looking straight at him.
"Well, Emma, it seems you had a fun day today. Win anything at the festival?"
This isn't what he wants to talk about, I thought. He wants to ask me about that night. "No." I said in a bit of a moody tone.
"Just get to the point" Zero huffed.
"I was just trying to lighten up the mood" the headmaster said in his happy, gay tone.
Not this again, I thought.
"You failed. Now move on." Zero said in a fairly angry voice.
"Zero's right." the headmaster admitted in a normal tone of voice. "What I brought you here for was to.."
"Find out what I know about that night." I finished.
"Exactly." he responded."Now" he began again. " What happened? Tell me the way it actually happened"
"Sam, Risa and I found out about two academy students that had gone missing. We went searching for them even though the others had warned us about a...monster."
"A monster?" the headmaster inturrupted.
I took a shook my head yes and took in a breath. After releasing it, I continued with my story.
"It started to get dark and we started to get really jumpy. That was when I thought I heard a noise that sounded like sobbing. I left to go and check out the noise while Sam and Risa were arguing."
The headmaster nodded his head. Zero began to stare off into space.
"Then I heard a loud scream and I ran towards it. When I turned the corner there...was......a...."
My voice began to trail off as I remembered the monster in every detail. The frightening moment was not one I wanted to remember. The headmaster beckoned me on and Zero let out a huff that sounded like laughter. Shut up Zero, I thought. That drained some of the fear out of me.
"The monster was there guarding the dead body of one of the girls. It was eyeing my friends, so I picked up a rock and threw it. The rock hit the monster right on the head and it turned around and began to chase me. I made it all the way to the courtyard with it still chasing me."
I paused to take a breath and I noticed the headmaster was on the edge of his seat. He must of realised it too and leaned back.
"I began to slow down and it sounded like the monster was going to get me when I was picked off the ground. I thought I was a goner until I opened my eyes and......." I gulped, "Kaito was there."
Thinking about Kaito put me on edge. No matter how I thought about it, there was no way a human could jump thirty feet and land saftely on top of a roof. Plus, I wasn't about to mention my real reason for fainting.
