Emma

"Jarred!" I called as I walked down the hall.

He had just left a common's room and begun to walk down the hallway from me. At the sound of my voice he paused and turned slightly to look at me.

"I want to talk to you." I said as I was nearly to him.

"I believe you already did." He stated quite coldly.

Ignoring his rudeness, I crossed the distance that seperated us and stood in front of him. I grabbed his left arm and dragged him along with me.

"Hey! What do you think you are doing?!" He said loudly and out of his cool demeanor.

"If your going to be rude to me, then I'll just treat you the same way." I said as I dragged him back into the room he had come out of.

Luckily no one was inside. I pulled him inside and with his arm, I pulled him in front of me. With him in the back of the room, I turned around and closed the door, locking it.

"You have a lot of nerve doing this to me! I can trap you inside your mind so far that you'll never see the real light of day!" He threated, clenching his teeth in anger.

"I know you can, and you can try, but I've found a way around your power." I said, still standing in front of the door.

My brother narrowed his eyes at me, then released his stare.

"No way...." He trailed off, his voice sounding helpless and sunk down into the cusion of a reading bench.

"I want you to tell me about Shizuka Hio. Anything from the time before she was in love with the human man that eventually got her jailed for trying to avenge him." I ordered him.

Jarred remained staring at the ground for a while before he answered me.

"There's one thing about her that I remember....when I was young." He admitted, looking like he had been broken."She went to a lot of balls that other pureblood vampires held. Our parents always dragged me along with them, and I saw her attend every one...."

"Did she fall for any of the men there? Did you ever see her bring a child with her?" I asked.

"No. She didn't have any children." He replied, still in shock that I had discovered his weakness.

I didn't think I was going to get any more information from him, so I turned to leave when the sound of his voice made me stop.

"Tell me, how did you....?" Jarred asked.

"Mirrors. Or something close enough to them, like ice." I replied, then walked out of the room.

I breathed a sigh of relief when I entered the hallway. My ability was great, but took a lot to sustain focusing it. Keeping tiny ice shards that you couldn't see in front of my eyes had been genious, but hard to do.

I returned to the dorm before the school let the Night class out and climbed up the stairs back to my room.

"Did you learn anything new?" Kogeta asked.

"Shizuka attended a lot of parties thrown by other purebloods." I told him.

"That's it?" He asked.

"It's all I could get out of him." I said.

Kogeta moved the papers into a neat pile."I guess the best thing to do is visit the hosts themselves and ask them."

"All right, I'll do that tomorrow. You can stay here and read through the documents." I ordered him.

"I was afraid you were going to say that...." He sulked.

"What? I'll have someone with me when I go." I said.

"No, I mean the part where I have to stay and read all of this." He said, gesturing to the large stack.

I smiled."Just go and get some rest." I told him.

Kogeta left the pile on my desk and left my room. I kicked off my shoes once he was gone and plopped down on my bed and breathed a long sigh out.

Only five more days to find the heir now.

Night falled and I woke up and got dressed for the day. This time in a ice blue dress with longsleeves that matched my eyes. The middle, which was a cumber bun, was white and made me appear thinner than I was. I wore white stalkings underneath and matching ice blue boots with white lace. I wore a cloth choker necklace that was edged with lace as well. A bonnet with the outfit as well and I put it on.

I looked exactly like a porcelin doll in my mirror. Koien tried to assure me that it was important that I looked innocent. That way, they would tell me anything I wanted. I sighed and left my room with him behind. He took me to his car which was parked and ready for us at the front of the building. We left after the Day class were already in their dorms.

Kaito had worked all day long to arrange meetings with all the purebloods that his family was friends with. Since my brother didn't have any good relationships with any purebloods, I had to count him out or I would have asked him to come with me. Purebloods tended to like to be in the presence of their own status and not the low-lives. That meant that Koien would be doing a lot of sitting out in his sports car today.I climbed in the passenger seat and we drove away to the first that was closest to us.

He was a man that wore a dark stripped suit and pointed toed shoes. His face was slim and he had a moustache that was thin and curled at the tips. The top of his head was barely covered in black hair and it was greasily parted to cover as much as it could. What was more was that the man's voice cracked at the end of each sentance. It wasn't a pleasant visit. The only thing I learned from him was that Shizuka had been a devilish woman, tricking him out of most his gambling money. I thanked him for his time and left as soon as I could.

The next couple lived in a refined European style home. The lady of the house wore a blood red dress with matching gloves on her hands. Her heels were the same color and around her neck was a fur scarf. The woman's hair was a dark brown and was put up into a bun on top of her head. Her lips were the same color cimsion as her dress. The man that sat next to her on the love seat, her husband, wore a plain black suit. His black hair was nicely combed and he had a pleasant personality, unlike his wife. The only bad habit he had was that he was a smoker. They didn't contribute any information that could help me, but I thanked them and left.

The third person an elderly woman who wore a crocheted shaw over her dress. Her hair was grey from a long life and she was very kind and gentle. Her home was also very nice. The thing that bothered me the most though, was how many cats she had. As she told me about Shizuka, her cats did figure eights around my legs and rubbed up against me. I sat as still as I could, ignoring them. Koien laughed when I came sneasing out of her mansion.

After the eighth or ninth visit, I stopped. It was obvious that none of them knew Shizuka very well. She had exposed herself in public, but had never talked about her own personal life. The perfect clue that she had been hiding something, but what? I hoped I could find out by the end of the four days that I now had.

"Let's go back already." I told Koien.

He drove me back to Cross Academy then.
