RoseThorned Vampire: Chapter 9

A loud crack of thunder jolted me awake to see a figure standing by my bed holding something up in their hand.

I screamed...

thinking that it was a knife. I stopped when I realized that the object being held above my head was a plastic carrot. I felt silly for ever falling for that and sat up in bed, then I became angry. The one who had played this trick on me was Maira. She stood grinning from ear to ear at the edge of the bed. I had had enough of that little girl to last me a life time.

Suddenly, Kaito came rushing into my room and froze in his tracks when he saw that it was only his little sister.

"I fooled her! I fooled her!" the little girl chanted with childish giggles now and then.

"Stop that now. If you don't, I'll tell mom and dad about that incident." Kaito said.

Maira stopped chanting instantly at the end of his sentance and stared at him.

"Now, go back to your room!" He ordered.

Maira rushed around her brother into the hall, calling out "Have fun together." in a sick and twisted rhyme.

"Don't let her get to you." Kaito said and then left my room, closing my door behind him.

I laid back down and attempted to fall asleep after Maira's little prank. Hopefully she stayed in her own room for the rest of the day.

It became night and I woke up and stretched. Unfortanately for me, I hadn't forgotten about Maira's stunt she pulled last morning. The servant girls dressed me in a light green dress with white lace trim. One of them combed my hair and braided it. At the end she tied a light green ribbon around it into a bow. The shoes she gave me were also light green and I put them on.

As I walked out into the hallway, I found that the servants were more busy than usual. It was only natural though, tomorrow was the big ball that I would be going to. I went down the hallway towards the library. Today was going to be another one of the days with nothing planned for me so I could relax. I passed the hall where all the portraits were hung and at the very end was the current family members ruling the estate. 

Rouzen and Korrina were in seperate and together paintings, Kaito had his own painting--a current one of what he looked like, and Maira had one. Her painting was smiling devilishly. The artist had truely caught the little girl's inner self. Somehow the painting looked more frightening than the real one though. My painting had been placed in between Korrina's and Kaito's. My lover's painting was the only one that seemed to dare be beside Maira's.

I moved on into the next hallway and stopped. The little demon girl was standing dirrectly in the center of the hallway, half way through it. She had spotted me too and smiled like her painting. Maira held up something in her hands. It was a pair of something white and lacey. The little girl held it up to her chest and held it there with both hands.

"Wait until big brother sees this!" She sing-sung it teasingly.

The white lace was one of my bras. At that point I had had enough out of her little mouth. Maira new this and turned around and ran giggling all the way. I began after her.

"Come back here!" I shouted at her.

Since I was older and had longer legs, I caught up to the little girl quickly but I didn't expect what happened next. I reached out and grabbed the back of her dress and pulled her towards me. In my hands came a copy of Maira while the real one was still running. She ran a couple of feet and turned around giggling at me. Her copy that was still in my hands gave me the stink eye and stuck out her tougue.
