Douglas's voice echoed through the room, loud enough to pull us out of our sleepy daze. We had only just woken up and were still getting ourselves ready for the day when his voice reached us from downstairs. After quickly finishing up, we made our way down to see what was going on.

"Next!"

"What's up, Douglas? Doing a price check on bionic kids?" Leo asked sarcastically as we followed behind. The sight in front of us made it pretty obvious why he had said it. Douglas was standing there with one of those handheld scanners, moving it over the students as if he were scanning groceries at a checkout counter. "Ooh, I wonder how much I'm worth." Adam said, immediately becoming interested. Chase glanced at him with a mischievous grin as the blonde woman at the front of the line stepped aside to make room for the next student. "Well, we could sell you for parts and find out.

"Are you serious?" I exclaimed, turning toward Chase with wide eyes. For a second, he actually thought I was defending Adam. "We'd still be broke." Chase only giggled, pointing at Adam, whose expression immediately darkened as he shot Chase an annoyed glare. "All right. Well, just don't sell the part that does this!" he shouted before throwing a playful punch at Chase. "Ow!" Adam protested, rubbing the spot where Chase had hit him. Douglas barely acknowledged their antics. He simply continued scanning the students, looking completely unfazed by the chaos happening behind him. "I'm just cataloging everyone's bionic abilities." he finally explained.

"Ohh, for which magazine?" I teased, earning an exhausted look from Douglas. I couldn't help but laugh, and Leo and Adam joined in. Douglas just shook his head, clearly regretting having to deal with all of us. "Cool. Count me in."

"Adam, we already know what your abilities are." Bree quipped, placing her hands on her hips. He grinned innocently before suddenly jogging toward the front of the line. He stopped beside a guy who was already waiting his turn and gave him an overly hopeful look. The guy sighed, clearly annoyed, but stepped backward anyway. Apparently, even he wasn't willing to argue with a mentor. "Ugh, okay, you got me." Adam admitted with a shrug. "I just really like waiting in lines." I rolled my eyes.

"In addition to the bionics we know they have, Krane also gave them a lot of weird hidden abilities. I'm just trying to get a grip on what we're dealing with." Douglas continued explaining, his attention shifting toward another student. Bree suddenly pointed toward the back of the line.

"What does that guy have?" The student she was pointing at had both hands extended toward his friend. A faint wave of heat seemed to ripple through the air around his palms. "He has Thermo Hands. Yeah, that's right. I know my bionics." I said proudly, removing invisible dust from my shoulder. "Can't you see, Bree?" I deliberately dragged out her name, teasing her in the same exaggerated way Caitlin usually did. Bree gave me an unimpressed look, while everyone else focused on the student. Douglas nodded, apparently interested in seeing the ability in action. "Check it out." He reached behind him and grabbed a spatula before placing a raw burger onto the table.
