Xaviers POV

I rolled out of bed with a raging headache from the night before. I forced myself up and to the bathroom to get myself ready for the day. My morning routine was long like usual and I got dressed in black dress pants, a white button down shirt, and a black dress vest to complete the look. I rolled up my sleeves and grabbed my bag before I exited my bedroom.

I let out a short laugh at the sight of my sister passed out on my couch. "Aria you gotta get up." I said as I passed her. I hated how she always came and slept on my couch but some reason it was always a comforting sight. It was Probably because I spent majority of my time alone.

She groaned loudly and I heard her saying a string of curse words in Polish. I completely ignored it and went into the kitchen to make breakfast for the both of us. I had a feeling I'd be doing this rather often.

It's Arias first year of college and she's been in her dorm for a week. Somehow she hates it already. "Please do expect me over all the time." I heard her say as she came into the kitchen.

"You're always welcome. You could've just commuted from here." I told her. My home is positioned on the outskirts of the campus. No more than about thirty minutes away, so it wouldn't have been a tough commute. "I wish. But I have to live on campus the first year, remember?"

"Oh that's right. I forgot about that."

"For a faculty member you really don't know much about the school."

"I know plenty...just about my own department. Not the residential life." I shrugged.

Despite being a professor at her university, I couldn't advise her on anything regarding residence. Let her tell it, if I had she wouldn't have gone here. "I really am serious when I say I'll be over rather frequently."

"I expect nothing less."

"Why do you live in the woods though?"

"I don't live in the woods." I scoffed. "Every time you're over, you're criticizing my home."

"It's just so gloomy. It's like dark academia meets cottage core. In modern time though."

"I really don't know what that means but alright. Here eat up, and sleep in the guest room next time instead of the couch."

"Of course, I forgot about how you treasure that couch. If you ask me it's not even all that. Ten thousand dollars on that soft velvet couch?" She scoffed. "And that's why I keep finding you on it?"

"I said it wasn't all that, I never said it was uncomfortable."

"Eat your food and get out of my house." I told her whilst laughing. "Don't you have an 8am to teach. It's 7:15."

"You are right. Don't forget to lock up."

I grabbed my things and held a piece of toast in my mouth as I made my way out of the door and to the car. Time for the first day of the semester.

:::

The first half of my day was...slow. Thankfully I only had two classes to teach on Monday's, Wednesday's, and Fridays. Since they were so spread out the first being at 8am and the other at 3:30, I spent a large chunk of my time just sitting in my office with a few visits from students. I also had the time to go through some of the papers that had been coming across my desk recently.

While I am a professor, I am also an attorney. I used to work full time as a criminal defense attorney but now I teach and I am the specified lawyer for a famous family in Hollywood.

One of their children goes here actually.

I sighed heavily and dropped the contract I was currently reading. I'd have to look at it another time when my vision wasn't going in and out of focus. I'm exhausted.

Just as I went to get up to go over to my couch a knock sounded at my door. I looked up and spotted a familiar face. It was The daughter of my biggest clients. "Hey Dr. Nixon, my mom wanted me to bring you these." She said as she poked her head in.

"Come on in Paris."

She obliged and shut the door behind her. "She said it's some contract from a brand deal or something like that, I forgot. But I also got you some coffee and a burger." She explained as she passed me the papers along with a brown paper bag and cup.

"You are a life saver!" I smiled. That toast from this morning did absolutely nothing for me. "Yeah it's nothing." She shrugged.

"You alright? You look a little...drained." I mentioned as I really took a second to look at her. "I'm okay." She tried to assure me.

I looked at her pointedly and the smile she tried to make started to falter a little bit. I'd known her since she was younger since our parents are friends and she is Arias friend. She had become like another little sister, so I could usually read her pretty well.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, I'm-I'm fine. I gotta go though, okay. I'll probably see you later."

I nodded and stood to hug her quickly. "Okay, have a great first day. Let me know if you need anything or if you want to talk. I'm always here."

Whatever was wrong, I wouldn't pressure her to tell me. I just wanted to open the line of communication and let her know it was there when she was ready. Like I said she was like my little sister, and so I always treated her as such.

"Thanks, Xavier."

"No problem."

I ate quickly after she left and even though I had the intention of going to sleep to rejuvenate myself I didn't even get the chance. I ended up staring at the ceiling for two hours and when I finally closed my eyes my alarm was ringing all over again. The class is just downstairs so I chose to ignore the alarm and close my eyes for 15 minutes.

15 turned into 30 and now I'm rushing to get into the classroom. I was only a couple minutes late nothing too crazy.

"Good afternoon everyone, apologies for my tardiness." I greeted loudly so everyone could hear me.

I opened up the small closet and pulled out one of the mics to clip onto my shirt. As I fixed the clip my eyes scanned the room, so I could get a view of everyone here. I had no doubt in my mind that this class would slowly get smaller through the semester. I expect at least five people to drop it by the end of the week.

As I looked upward at the back row my eyes caught sight of a gorgeous brown skinned girl. Her eyes were green, and her skin looked soft. She didn't have chubby cheeks but she did have a full face adorable face. Her full lips were settled into a slight pout and she almost looked uncomfortable. She was wearing a faded black hoodie and her hair was in a low bun.

I pulled my eyes away from her despite not wanting to so I didn't look like a creep.

"Welcome to Criminal Behavior. I'm Professor Nixon and you will be gaining a critical understanding of the law, policies, case law, critical thinking, and examination of criminal thought of actions."
