"Genesis?"
My gaze snapped towards Masons eyes and then to his outstretched hand. We had finally arrived at the banquet hall. "You ready?"
"Oh yeah sorry." I mumbled.
I took his hand and jumped down. I hooked my arm with his and held the tail of my dress as we walked to the doors. We handed the nice lady our tickets and followed the long line of people to the entrance of the event. "Here's your mask."
I handed his over while subtly looking around for Xavier. When we first pulled up I told him I was here and he said he was a couple minutes away. "Let me help you with yours." Mason gently pulled me out of the way of the crowd and we stood along the wall.
I was about to object but didn't get the chance because he was already taking it out of my hand and putting it on for me.
I held onto the ticket with our table number on it a little tighter as he stepped behind me. He was too close to me but I kept calm because he wasn't making me uncomfortable. I kept my eyes down as he tied it.
But the minute I looked up my eyes collided with a pair of hazel eyes with a storm brewing behind them. I watched as Xaviers eyes shifted from mine to, I'm assuming, Mason. He didn't look too happy about what he was looking at. "Alright you're good. Let's get in there." Mason said.
As much as I didn't want to, I was forced to pull my gaze from Xavier while Mason held his arm out to me.
I turned again to offer Xavier a small wave or a smile or something just to show him that I saw him. Just to give him some acknowledgment. But when I turned back he disappeared in the crowd of 20 plus people.
I sighed and looped my arm through Masons yet again.
We went inside the rather small area and they had some music playing lightly in the background. It was lit with warm toned lights, some blue and some purple, and the room was decorated nicely. It was the prettiest Masquerade themed decor I'd ever seen.
In the far side of the room there were two separate entry ways all side by side. They were covered by long silver beads and each hallways led to something different. There was a sign by each entryway to let everyone know what it was for. The fire led to the auctioning room and the second led to the hall of mirrors.
I would definitely have to check that out before I leave tonight. "How long do you want to stay?" Mason asked as I led him to our table. "I'm not sure. My roommate might show up later in the night so I'll most likely go home with her if that's okay." I lied. I just want to introduce the idea of me leaving with someone else without telling him who I would actual be leaving with.
"Yeah of course. Just let me know and I'll leave when you go."
I nodded and took a seat after he pulled my chair out. "I did leave my bag in the car too so I'll grab it before we part ways."
"Sounds good."
"See anybody you recognize?" I asked.
"I think that's the football coach over there. But that's about it. You?"
I looked around the room, pretending to be looking out for any random face I recognized. In reality I was only looking for one person. "Nah." I replied when I didn't see him.
"Do you know if Professor Nixon is gonna be here?" He asked suddenly. Air caught in my throat and I had to quickly clear my throat. "Wh-why would I?" I laughed awkwardly.
"You work for him? Or did you stop that job?"
"Oh yeah right. Um yeah I do. I believe he will be here but I don't know for sure. He didn't tell me if he would." I replied. "Oh okay... you thirsty? I can grab us something."
"That would be great." I smiled. Soon as he walked away I pulled my phone out to text Xavier.
I didn't get to type out but one word before a felt a hand on my shoulder. Is it weird that I knew it was him before I turned around. I was proved right when I met his eyes as I turned. He smirked lightly as he looked at me.
I looked to meet his gaze better. "Words cannot describe how beautiful you look." He said low enough for only me to here. "I could say the same for you." I replied as I shamelessly looked him up and down.
He wore a perfect black suit with a white shirt. He opted for no tie but the small silver chain around his neck peaked out from his shirt completed his look perfectly.
"I wish I could touch you." I sighed. "I know, love. But just wait till this is over, you are all mine."
"That sounds enticing."
"Oh it will be." He promised as he scanned the room. "Where'd Matthew go?"
"That child's name is Mason." I laughed. "Same thing."
"He went to get drinks."
"I've gotta make sure that kid keeps his hands to himself." He replied. "Don't worry Mason is harmless." I assured him.
His eyes narrowed behind the mask and I found myself getting lost in them still. "Save me a dance tonight?"
"Of course."
"We'll leave after the auction." He said as he stepped a little closer. I only nodded as I looked around with my eyes. "Alright scram before someone starts looking this way." I told him.
He rolled his beautiful eyes and shook his head. "Oh hey Professor Nixon I thought that was you. How are you?"
I turned at the sound of masons voice. My back was now to Xavier as I looked at Mason. Mason sat the drinks down and stuffed his hands in his pockets as he looked at us with a small smile. "I'm doing alright, how are you Marv-Mason?"
My eyes widened a little bit and I let out a quiet sigh. Mason didn't even notice. "I'm Great. I have a beautiful date and there's free food. How could I be anything other than that," He smiled.
"You're right." Xavier replied. "I'm gonna finish making my rounds. I'll catch up with you later, Luna." He added.
I nodded and offered him a small wave before he walked away. This is looking up to be an eventful night.
