The week seemed to be doomed to drag. My period came on with a vengeance today, so I spent most of my time curled into a ball in my room. The worst symptom that I was having was the nausea. I felt yucky. Im one of those girls, whose period lasts about 3-4 days but they are the most painful days in my entire month. Its like I pay for the short period in intense pain.
Xavier texted a while ago asking if I wanted to come over, but I politely declined telling him that I was bedridden. I didn't even go to my classes today.
Not only was I in pain, it was dark and gloomy outside so that just made it even worse.
"Luna!"
I popped my head up from under my covers at the sound of Nadias voice. "What?" I yelled angrily. I had one request and that was for her to leave me be. Here she was for the fifth time in an hour screaming my name.
"Girl Come here!"
I groaned angrily and jumped out of bed. I looked ridiculous. I was dressed head to toe in Xaviers clothes, even the socks. My hair was in a messy bun that was tilted to the side. "What do you want Nadia?"
"There's some man at the door." She whispered as she stood at the door with a baseball bat in her hand. I furrowed my eyebrows and went to see what she was talking about. I looked through the peep hole and sure enough there was a man dressed in all black. He wore a sweatsuit, baseball cap, a mask, and his hood was pulled up. You really couldn't see any defining features to tell who he was. That is until he pulled the glasses off and rubbed his eyes.
I could immediately tell who he was by the eyes. "Thats just, thats...hes here for me. You can put the bat down."
"Is that the boyfriend?" She all but screeched. "Umm maybe."
"Oh Im not going anywhere until I meet him."
"No, no, lets wait for that. He...he has social anxiety and he doesn't like to be caught off guard meeting new people. I forgot that he was coming or else I would've made sure I answered the door." I lied.
"Alright, fine. But tell him id like to meet him soon."
"I promise I will."
She left the bat on the side of the door and went back to wherever she was. Once I was sure the coast was clear I pulled the door open. "What are you doing here? Did you forget I have a roommate?" I whispered as I let Xavier in.
"Hi, baby. I missed you too." He replied sarcastically. I quickly pulled him down the dark hallway and into my even darker bedroom. "Damn what are you a vampire now. The light burns your skin?" He teased.
I rolled my eyes as I turned the bedside lamp on. "Sorry, I just wasn't expecting you and with how Nosy Nadia is, I don't want to risk us getting caught."
"I get it, its okay. I should've called."
"I mean that would've been nice." I mumbled. "She's your best friend though, how worried should we be about her knowing who I am?" He asked.
I only shrugged in response. He had a point. "I was just assuming this was one of those things you keep a secret, from...well anyone."
"I told my best friend."
"What! When!?" I gasped. "A little while ago, but he isn't going to say anything. If you trust her, you can tell her." He playfully bumped my shoulder and passed a bag over to me. "What's this."
"I got all your favorites. No ice cream though, I read that dairy makes period symptoms worse."
As I looked In the target bag at all the things he'd gotten me, a strong emotion swept through me. So strong that my eyes started to water. "Thank you." I sniffled.
"Anything for you my love. I know you said you were on your death bed and all that, so I figured id come support you and bring snacks. Let's watch a movie." He suggested.
I only nodded and he changed his clothes into something more comfortable. "Are these my clothes?" He asked as he got in the bed next to me.
"Yeah. They're comfortable."
"You're adorable."
He turned on A Corpse Bride, my favorite movie, and we cuddled.
It was just the comfort that I needed.
When I woke up the following morning, he was gone and my bonnet found its way onto my head. I saw very little of Xavier the rest of the week. He'd gotten increasingly busy and I didn't go stay with him like I usually did. But the dynamic between us didn't change. To make up for the time we didn't see each other, we texted.
Or we spoke on the phone. In our free time wed just be on the phone talking about nothing in particular. He'd be getting ready for a meeting or id be walking to class.
On Thursday night, I packed a bag for the weekend, Xavier had decided to cancel his classes and meetings and commit to taking me to New York for the Weekend.
I wasn't sure what he had planned, so I packed an abundance and an outfit for every occasion. I had an outfit for dinner, a walk in Central Park, you name it. I managed to keep it condensed though and all in one large duffle bag. I was able to save space In the bag by leaving off pajamas. My period was pretty much over, so I didn't have to sleep with clothes on. Knowing Xavier, we probably wouldn't be getting much sleep anyway.
I walked past Nadia on my way to the kitchen and she side eyed me. I knew what she wanted. I just didn't think I was going to satisfy her with the knowledge she craved. I knew that if I told Nadia about Xavier she wouldn't tell anyone. Since we were kind of just now talking to each other, using more than five word sentences, I guess it just didn't feel right.
I was also still wary of her because of my analysis of our friendship, but if it was one thing that Nadia would never do, it was tell a serious secret. If I told her something serious, she would die without ever uttering the information herself. She'd slip up about little stuff but something this extreme would be a different story.
"If I go home and you don't, Ill bring back the cake!" She shouted to me.
"Why are you yelling as if we're separated by a brick wall?"
"Sorry." she laughed. I chuckled to myself as I rummaged through the refrigerator.
