We got back to the house just as the sun started to set. I was beyond excited. "Oh my god that was so cool. I can't believe it's that easy!" I rambled as I walked up the path beside him. He chuckled at my excitement.
"Thank you, really. I probably would've died without knowing how to ride a bike if it weren't for you."
"You're welcome. We can try without the training wheels when I get another free afternoon." He promised. "Okay, that sounds good."
We continued up the path in a comfortable silence. When we were a few feet from the back door however he changed his path and urged me to follow. We took a seat at the fire pit and it gave me the perfect view of the setting sun.
The light shined on him perfectly. It highlighted all the contours of his face and accentuated his beauty. He sighed heavily and ran a hand through his hair. His anxiousness radiated off of him in waves and I remembered why I came over to begin with. "This is where we have this talk you wanted now right?" I sighed.
"Yeah." He chuckled nervously. "I'm just trying to compose my thoughts, so I say what I need to the right way."
There's no way he was going to break up with me right? I mean you can't break up with someone you're not technically dating. "Take your time." I mumbled.
"Luna, I know that this isn't the most conventional relationship. There's a lot that we won't be able to do, And I realize that. I know what's at risk here and I know it isn't exactly right but I don't want to lose what we have. So, I'm asking you...will you be my girlfriend."
My voice got caught in my throat so I settled for nodding rapidly. I guess my reaction eased his nerves because he burst out laughing. "Too stunned to actually speak?"
I only nodded in response as I pulled him in for a hug. "You didn't even need the cautionary warning in the beginning. I'd say yes regardless." I whispered.
"I felt like I needed to. I promise that I'm going to do my best to give you everything you deserve. We won't be able to show any PDA or tell anyone for now. That won't be the easiest thing but it'll be temporary."
"What do you mean, temporary?"
"I think im going to go back to practicing law full time. But I would have to leave the university when this semester is over. Im under a contract that ends in May. If I don't renew it I can resign and we can be together for real." He said.
"But you love your job. I don't want you to quit just for me."
"I like it, but it's not like it's my life's calling. Even if it was I would resign for you because I want to be with you. I'm a lawyer before I'm a professor and clients are not hard to come by."
"Okay. If you're sure that's what you want."
"I'm sure. So we'll only have to keep this a secret for a little while longer."
"But I mean...we can't just pop out as a couple as soon as the semester ends. Especially not to our family's. They'd just assume that we were together all along."
"You're right. But we can figure that out when the time comes. For now let's just worry about right now."
I nodded and pressed my lips against his. I was overwhelmed with joy. In that moment I wished more than ever that Nadia and I were still talking because it's something I would love to share with her. But then again, who knows how she'd react to this so I'd just have to keep it to myself anyway.
I stayed the night with Xavier again and the following morning I went back home to get myself ready for class.
When I walked in the front door I almost walked into Nadia as she was on her way out. "Oh my God Luna you scared me. I thought you were here all this time." She gasped and held a hand to her chest.
"Sorry." I winced. "Did you...are you coming back from last night?" She asked me skeptically.
"Maybe."
She gasped yet again and her eyes widened. "I had a feeling you were seeing someone but I just wasn't sure."
"How did you come up with that conclusion. I never told you where I was."
"I know damn well you didn't go all the way home in the middle of the week and you don't have any other friends that you'd stay the night with. So who is he."
"Yes because you know me so well. I have to get ready for class." I mumbled as i slid past her.
"Hey, i know we aren't exactly on the best of terms right now but remember that if you wanna talk or tell me about it you can."
"Thanks. I'll see you later."
"See ya!"
I quickly went to shower and get ready for class. I decided to wear black sweat pants, a black hoodie, and my black and red Jordan 4s. To give my hair a break from my usual slick bun, I decided to wear my hair out.
Once I was ready I went straight to class. My first class was torturously long, but it was interesting so at least I had something to do other than watching the clock.
At the end of the day I met up with Mason for ice cream and people watching.
