3 weeks later....
"Bro the root is not 5.6."
"Okay Mrs. Miyagi, how about you show me how to do it then." Mason heaved out a sigh. He had been trying to solve the same problem for the past twenty minutes.
I took hold of his notebook and went through the solving steps being sure to write everything down for him to use as a reference. "And then you'd get two root 7."
I looked over at him and he was scratching his head. "You still don't get it?"
"No Im sorry."
"It's okay. Let me just show you with a different example."
About two weeks ago Mason expressed to me that he was struggling with his Math work and had a test coming soon. We decided to start having weekly study sessions where we'd do our homework together and help each other out. So far it was really just me tutoring him after finishing my own work.
We were sat in the Lounge just down the hall from where Xaviers office was located. It was the most convenient place since no one hardly ever came here.
"So then you'd go ahead and solve this part but you won't be able to remove this one from under the radical because it isn't a perfect square." I explained again.
He nodded and Went on to try the next few problems on his own. "How are you so good at this?"
"I don't know math was always one of my favorite subjects." I shrugged.
"I'm gonna need you all semester I hope you know that." He chuckled. "I had a feeling you would." I joked.
As he did the problems I stood to stretch. "I'm gonna go to the bathroom."
He nodded without looking at me and I started my speed walk to the ladies room. I made my way down the hallway with my head down in my phone. You could imagine my surprise when I felt myself being grabbed and pulled into a room.
"What the fu—Xavier what the hell are you doing. Why are you still in your office?" I asked as my eyes landed on him. He grinned at me as I tried to calm my racing heart.
It's after four so he should've been home by now. "Had some papers to grade. I saw you working with Marvin down there. You a tutor now?"
"Nah I'm just good at math and he's horrible at it." I laughed without bothering to correct him on Masons name. "We're study buddies."
"Wouldn't you much rather be on your way to my place?" He asked as he leaned in and placed a kiss on my jaw. "Tempting but I promised I'd meet up with my family for dinner tonight."
"You can't come after? We can watch Coco and You could stay the night." He offered. He continued to leave soft kisses on my neck as he did so. Thank god his office door didn't have a window.
"Will you get me that pie from the market that you got last time?"
"That could be arranged." He agreed.
"I'll be on my way over soon as I'm done with dinner."
"Perfect."
He kissed my forehead and took a step back. "Let me go before Mason starts thinking I'm taking a dump or something." I laughed.
"Alright. I'll see you later." I winked horribly. He laughed softly and shook his head as I slipped out of his office.
I actually went and used the bathroom quickly and made my way back to the lounge. "Finally you're back. Can you check my work?"
I nodded and plopped down beside him.
We continued to study for about an hour before deciding to pack up. "You are an Angel you know that. I might actually pass because of you." He praised as we made our way out the door.
"Hey I didn't do much. You just needed it explained in a different way."
"Always humble." He laughed. We made our way out of the building together. "You parked in the lot?" He asked.
"Yeah."
"Good we're going the same way."
"So I was thinking about finding some sort of internship or something or like volunteer work to get a feel for the law field. I know your work under Professor Nixon, so I was wondering if you could ask if he knew of anything? Or if he was looking for a mentee."
His question caught me off guard but I quickly recovered with a nod. "Umm okay. I can definitely ask. I mean he's always looking to connect with students and stuff."
"Awesome. I really appreciate it. I'm just feeling unsure about my major so I was hoping that if I could watch someone in the field, it would kinda give me some clarity." He shrugged.
"Yeah I totally get it. I'll ask him tomorrow and let you know what he says."
"Thank you."
"Yeah no problem."
"Do you like working for him?" He asked after a few moments in silence. "Yeah. He's an easy boss. Since he has a TA this semester I really don't have to do too much. But I get to help a lot with keeping his clients up to date with stuff and setting meetings. Little stuff like that. It'll look great on my resume when I'm apply for jobs for sure."
"Well that's good. I don't know how you'll feel about this but for a while I thought you weren't actually working for him. I lowkey thought it was an excuse for y'all to fuck around." He admitted.
I gasped before I burst out laughing. Not because it was funny but because I can't believe he just said that shit. We're we that obvious?
"What?! That's crazy. I mean it would be the perfect cover but no. I actually work for him. He also has a girlfriend already." I told him.
"So you're single then? No professors I'd have to compete with if I asked you out?" He asked. He was serious but I wanted to pretend that he wasn't. I thought he'd already gotten that it wasn't gonna happen between us.
"I mean Professor Kinny is really adorable." I joked. "The man's like 80. Nixon is a way better option."
We both laughed at that. "Not saying I would but do you think it would be such a horrible thing if I was seeing him?" I asked.
"Well I mean...are you ever gonna be in his class again?"
"No."
"It probably wouldn't be that bad but still kinda weird. I mean what is he like 38 and you're 20?"
"31." I laughed. "Still in a different stage of life than you are. In theory it isn't inherently bad. But don't you think it would force you to really get prepared for a certain type of relationship that you're not really ready for at your age?"
"I mean I guess."
"I don't know maybe it's just me. But you can think you're mature and ready for something but you really might not be. When you're stuck preparing dinner for him or missing out on all the fun things you do with your young friends because you're helping him with real adult shit, you'll be wishing you dated someone your age. Plus I think it's easier for the younger person to be manipulated."
"Damn you rehearsed that or you speaking from experience?"
"Experience sadly. When I was 17 I got into a situation with my dual enrollment coach. She was like 27. She was looking for something serious after a while and was talking about kids and living together and all this other shit that I just wasn't ready for. I missed so much time of my teen years and having fun with my friends because I was always sneaking around with her."
As much as I'd hate to admit it. Masons words sparked a certain type of worry in me and I hated it. Xavier and I couldn't be like that. Right?
"I'm sorry you had to experience that."
"Yeah me too. So if you were thinking about it don't. Believe me. It's fun until it isn't trust me."
"Don't worry. I'm not even thinking of going there." I promised. Little did he know...
