Luna's POV
I love you.
The three words played in my mind like it was on some broken fucking record. I stood under the water thinking of Xaviers words. Maybe he only said it because it was a really intimate moment.
He didn't even look like he was consciously aware of what he was saying. I washed my body despite every muscle in my body screaming to be relaxed.
I let my hair out of its high ponytail and put my bonnet on. I'll deal with it in the morning.
When I came out the bathroom Xavier was sitting on the bed in just a towel. I pulled a shirt out of my bag and pulled in on before making my way to the bed.
He and I kind of didn't say anything else after he confessed his love. I wasn't upset or anything so I hope he didn't think I was. I was just in my head thinking about whether he meant it or not.
I mean he had to right? Who buys someone diamonds like the ones he gave me if he doesn't love them? Well actually I take that back. Nadia's ex boyfriend got her a diamond ring and he was cheating on her. But this wasn't the same. Xavier isn't the same as most men.
That still doesn't mean that it wasn't just the heat of the moment.
As I made my way around him, he grabbed my forearm. "About what I said..."
"Don't worry. I understand if it was just in the heat of the moment type of thing. It's no big deal." I started to say.
"Wait what? No. No Luna it wasn't—that wasn't just a heat of the moment kind of thing."
My eyes widened and I gulped quietly. "I-it wasn't?" I stuttered.
"No I meant what I said. I just hadn't meant to tell you like that. This is exactly why."
"Oh." I couldn't manage to say anything else. "I understand if you're not ready to say it back just yet. I don't expect you to. I just want you to know that I meant it. I do love you."
Despite what he said his eyes were hopeful, expectant even. He wanted me to say it back. He said that he didn't expect me to say it but when I hesitated in my response he sighed. "I'm gonna take a shower."
I went to stop him to tell him...how I felt. I'd say Anything to stop the look of disappointment filling his eyes. "You don't have to. It's okay." He assured me and went to take a shower.
:::
We made it back home early Sunday morning and it seemed like the commute back was way shorter. Pulling into Xavier's driveway allowed for reality to set in. Our fairytale weekend was over. But it was one of many and I'm sure we'd have plenty more.
Next time I'll have to be the one hosting. He's always doing something grand for me and I feel like I should return the favor. "What are you doing for the rest of the day?" I asked.
"Nothing much. I'm gonna meet up with Jordan later. He wants to get drinks."
"That sounds fun."
"Oh I'm sure it will be for him. He's bringing a date. His date is bringing her sister though unfortunately."
"So a double date?" I asked as my eyebrows knitted together. "No it's a friend thing."
I raised my eyebrow and he chuckled. "Don't worry, belleza. He wanted to introduce her to me because he wants me to get back into the dating scene. For a really long reason that I don't feel like getting into I agreed with him to keep up with a lie."
I blinked in response. "What?" I was having a hard time keeping up. "It's a long story. Just don't worry. Im gonna show so much disinterest in her she's gonna think I don't even like women." He assured.
"Comforting." I snickered. He leaned over and kissed my cheek. "Don't worry."
"Im not. Have fun. I have to hustle and get home. I can't have my mom beat me there." I told him.
He nodded and I turned my head more so I could kiss him for real.
When he pulled away he looked like he was about to say something but quickly stopped himself. I gracefully ignored it and started to get out the car. He helped me get my things back into my car and helped me into the drivers seat. I had a feeling he was dragging this out because he just didn't want me to leave but I wasn't going to be cocky and say that out loud.
"Thank you for everything, I really do appreciate you." I said as I looked up at him through the opened window. "No need to thank me, I'd do Anything for you." He spoke with so much conviction I had no choice but to believe it.
"Call me later?"
"Yes sir." I saluted him like he was a Sargent and let him back up before I drove away.
I made it home in no time and thankfully my family was still twenty minutes away. I used that time to do some last minute cleaning and stashing away anything I didn't want to be questioned about.
My ears perked up when I heard the sound of someone knocking at the door. "I'll get it!" Nadia called.
I made my way out of the kitchen to greet my family. As I did so I remembered that I was wearing the bracelets that Xavier bought me. My mom had already spotted me so I didn't have time to take them off. I'd just have to lie and tell them that it isn't real diamonds. No way they'd believe I bought myself something like this.
"Oh Lulu my baby! Happy birthday." My mom cooed and pulled me into a tight hug. "Finally 21 Lu, now you don't have to bribe your aunt into buying you and your friends alcohol." I gasped at my dads words.
"I only did that the one time, dad."
"Why you walking around here dressed like that! Lucas ain't tell you that we going out for lunch?" Aunt Janice basically screeched.
"Janice please. Why are you yelling like that!?" Mom asked. "Well now you're yelling!"
They proceeded to bicker and I quietly excused myself to go get dressed. I plucked random items out of the closet just to give me a couple options. I heard a knock on my door and yelled for whoever it is to come in.
"What are you going to wear? Your mom said put on something nice."
"I honestly don't know. I've been dressing up for two days straight, I've run out of ideas."
"Oh really? What'd you do with that boyfriend of yours?"
"Well, he took me to the city, we got lunch with his mom and sister, then we went to a fashion show, and you won't believe this girl but he took me on a helicopter ride." I told her excitedly.
Her eyes widened and her jaw dropped. "Damn bitch! I'm jealous. Did you get pictures?"
"Yeah I got a few." I pulled out my phone and showed her all of the pictures I took that didn't have Xaviers face in them.
"He's white?! I don't remember you telling me that." She exclaimed as she stared a picture of the back of Xavier's head.
"Yeah girl."
"Hold on, did he get you this too?!" She exclaimed as she pointed at my bracelet. "Yes."
"And it's real?!"
I nodded and she started squealing again. "Okay who is he. What does he do to afford all this? He a scammer?"
"No, he's a lawyer actually."
She pulled her eyebrows together and pulled her head back a little. "He What? You met a lawyer on campus and he carrying it like this?"
"Yes, Nadia."
"How old is he?"
"Thirty one." I mumbled.
"Thirty one! I know you said he was a lawyer but I was thinking twenties lawyer not thirties lawyer.
"I mean is there really that big of a difference?" I asked. "Yeah kinda. At that age men want to start families and living that fancy home life. Has he ever mentioned any of that?
"I mean not really. I know he wants kids but we never talk about that."
"Well be careful. I know you can take care of yourself but still, be careful. I can't believe your dating a lawyer though. One who buys you tennis bracelets and shit at that?! Wait until I tell Lucas."
