"Okay, Okay, that was the last one." I laughed as I sat my drink down. "I hope so. They were horrible." Xavier chuckled.
Our conversation somehow ended up on the topic of bad pick up lines. So i decided to share a few that people have used on me before. "Tell me about it."
"Here's your bill." The waiter said as he approached our table.
I reached into my pocket for my wallet as Xavier picked up the black book. "How much do I owe?" I queried.
"Nothing. I got it." He replied. "You don't have to do that—"
"I invited you for dinner. I'm paying." He said. I didn't bother arguing, the dominance in his tone forced me to keep my mouth shut. "Thank you."
I didn't argue about the bill but I didn't hesitate to pull out $30 for the tip. "I can pay for the tip." I insisted. He looked at me skeptically but took the money from my hands anyway.
He dropped his debit card in the book and we sat in a comfortable silence. I took now as my opportunity to check my phone. I wasn't expecting any notifications but I hadn't been on it since earlier.
I wasn't shocked to see no notifications. Elliot made his way back around quickly and we got everything taken care of. When Xavier got his card back we started to make our way to the elevator.
He pushed the button casually and leaned against the wall beside it. I stood in front of the doors with my hands in my pockets. I could feel his eyes on me. It seemed like he analyzing my every move. When I looked over at him he maintained eye contact. It looked like there was challenge swimming in his eyes. "Why you looking at me like that?" I asked with a shy laugh. "I can't look at you?"
I hoped to God my face wasn't red as I looked away from him and down to my feet.
"Not like that." I whispered to myself.
He pushed himself away from the wall and I still didn't look up to meet his gaze. Why was the elevator moving so slow? "Luna."
"Yes?" I responded without meeting his gaze. I felt his finger curl under my chin and he lifted my head gently so that I was looking him in the eye. "Not like what?" He asked in a soft and low tone.
"I-I just..."
Luckily the opening of the elevator doors stopped my stuttering. I lightly cleared my throat and stepped away from him to go into the elevator. We road the elevator in silence. I was a mess in my thoughts. What was happening between us right now.
His hand dropped to the small of my back and he guided me out the elevator and to the doors. "Where'd you park?"
"That way." I Pointed. He didn't have to tell me I already knew that he was going to walk me to my car. It was expected. His hand didn't leave the small of my back until we left the restaurant.
He found his way on the other side of me so he was walking closer to the street. He stuffed his hands in his pocket and we walked together in silence. "Did you like the food?"
"It was great and I had fun. Thank you."
"Anytime."
I remained silent after that and held back the feelings of disappointment as my eyes landed on my car. I didn't actually want the day to end. It was just too...perfect. I nearly snorted at that thought because of how irritated i was at the start of the day.
But being around Xavier just changed the tone of the day for me. "Text me when you're home?" He asked.
I nodded as we stopped beside the car. "You'll do the same?"
"Of course."
"When am I gonna see you again?"
"After I finish my finals, so Monday...send me your office address." I told him. "Will do. I haven't been having the best week so thank you giving me a little distraction. And making me laugh today."
"Anytime."
"Is that a promise?" He smirked. Judging by the seductive look in his eyes I felt like I should take it back. "Yes." I replied. "Don't be surprised if I call you for a laugh on a random Wednesday afternoon."
I laughed softly and shook my head. "Come on Ill stop you to your car so you don't have to walk back down the street."
He obliged and followed my lead to the car. It was less than a minute and i sighed as I stopped beside his car. "Don't forget to text me."
"I won't, Goodnight Xavier."
"Good night Luna."
I didn't pull off until he was in his car and got it started.
