As the weeks went on, I tried to find things to do to help myself see the "bright" side of this break. But there really wasn't one. However, The longer I stayed away the more I did realize that Xavier was really the only exciting thing about my life.
I really don't have many hobbies, I didn't do much outside of sit home, and I barely have friends. We weren't together for that long, but I forgot that this was literally my life before we got together. I've come to realize that it's sadly boring.
Because of that Im trying to pick up a new hobby and a new job. If I started working again it would give me something else to do. I will be interviewing for a tutoring position at the student success center today. I'm almost positive I'll get the job. The requirements are pretty basic. You have to be in good academic standing and have substantial knowledge of whatever you're tutoring.
I've maintained a 3.9 GPA since the ninth grade, and I'm trying to be a math or Portuguese tutor. I'm advanced in both subjects so it should be easy. A hobby, however, I have yet to find.
I fixed my blouse as I stood in front of my mirror. My interview is in less than two hours and I'm not done getting ready.
I fixed my eyebrows, applied mascara, added some lipgloss and moved on to my hair. I styled my hair in a low sleek ponytail with a middle part. Nothing too crazy.
I turned my attention away from my reflection when I heard my alarm going off. It's time for me to head out. When I got to the library, I made my way up to the sixth floor.
The layout was much different from the lower floors. It had more of a corporate cubicle feel to it. I was greeted by an older woman at the front desk.
"How you doing sweetie what can I do for you?"
"Hi, I'm looking for room 610. I have an interview."
"Alright you can follow me." She smiled. I nodded and took a step back from the desk. She led the way down a long hallway and stopped at a room that was composed of frosted glass walls. She knocked on the door before pushing it open. "Your 10am is here."
I shook hands with the older man who greeted me with a smile as I stepped into the room. "Thank you Monica."
The woman, Monica, left and closed the door behind her. I took a deep breath as I sat across from the man. He got right into his line of questioning. They were the usual generic questions that you're asked in any interview, and I did my best not to sound like I'd rehearsed my responses.
Suffice it to say, the interview actually went really well. So well that I was hired on the spot. Typically I'd see that as a red flag but because of the high demand in tutors, I guess I understand.
"How was the interview?" Nadia asked when I arrived home. "Great! I got the job."
"That's amazing congratulations."
"Thanks." I smiled as I took off my sweater. "Did you talk to the leasing office lady?"
"Yes. They said that i could like transfer the lease, So I could stay in this building just a different unit." I informed her. A few weeks ago I decided that I wanted to get a place of my own. I'm trying to get a one bedroom in this building without having to wait until my lease is over in December to do that.
"Well that's good. Are you sure you want to?"
"Yes ma'am. That's the fourth time you've asked me that." I laughed. "I know. I just...I'm not used to being on my own and when you go, it'll be my first time."
"I know. But you'll be fine. Don't worry. It's not like I'm going across the country. Plus, I think it's time we both get our own places." I admitted. She seemed disappointed but I didn't really say much else to cheer her up. There wasn't really a whole lot that I could say.
She and I have been living together in some capacity for the past ten years. It's time we had our own spaces. Not to mention things are sometimes still really awkward between us and we don't see or speak to each other that often anymore.
"Did you get your grades back for midterms?" She asked.
"Yeah only for like two classes though. You?"
"No and I'm super nervous. What if I failed and get kicked out?"
"Please, at the very least you got like a 70. You've been doing great and you studied hard. I doubt that you failed anything." I assured her. "I'm gonna try to be as positive as you are."
"I'm just repeating to you what I told myself." I laughed.
I squeezed her shoulder as I passed her and headed to my room. "Oh something came for you I left it on your dresser!"
"Thanks."
When I pushed the door open and flicked on the lights, I immediately looked to my dresser. There was a gift box with a big red bow on it.
I sat my stuff down and approached the box with a small smile on my face. I pulled on the end of the bow with anticipation. It was a rather tall and wide box so I knew it had to have a few things inside or something really large. I tossed the bow aside and pulled it open excitedly. My eyebrows furrowed and my smile grew when my eyes locked on the contents.
There was a face mask, a hair mask, a candle, body wash, and slippers inside. An envelope was sat on top. I pulled that out first and opened it up.
'I know that midterms are coming to an end, so use this to wind down from all of that stress. -X'
