Caleb looked at Zhu Li, very nearly losing his patience. As she sat a few tables away from them.
He was having a business lunch with Mr Stone, an American CEO of a shipping company based in Hong Kong.
To his utter surprise, in walked the newly appointed Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Zhu Peng with his daughter, Zhu Li, in tow into the restaurant.
"Mr. Stone!" Mr. Zhu Peng, exclaimed, upon seeing the CEO, then he saw Caleb and his face broke into a smile; not a genuine one, Caleb thought, "President Caleb Wang!"
"Fancy seeing you both here.." The politician is feigning innocence, Caleb knew, "I'm having a lunch with my daughter here.."
"Hello, sir. I'm Zhu Li."
"Hello. I'm Derik Stone."
Both of them shook each other's hands.
And Zhu Li gave Caleb a smile. "Hi, Caleb.."
"Oh. You know each other?" Mr Stone raised an eyebrow, looking at Zhu Li and then looking at Caleb.
"They've known each other since they're small..." Mr Zhu Peng, answered, smiling meaningfully at his daughter.
"Really?" Mr Stone, nodded, smiling, taking the hint from the politician and his daughter, that his daughter has some kind of special relationship with Caleb.
"Mind if we join you, then?" Mr Zhu Peng asked, giving Caleb a confident smile.
"I'm sorry, sir. But, we're actually in the middle of a business discussion .." Caleb tried smiling but he knew how stiff and cold his smile would have looked.
Mr Stone looked at caleb, a little surprised because their business discussion had actually finished, and they'd reached an agreement already.
But when he looked at Caleb, and he saw the forced smile on Caleb's face, he knew better than to say anything.
"Oh.." Mr Zhu Peng's face expression changed into a darker one, but he still feigned a smile, " well..another time then..you'll bring your father to meet Caleb Wang again, right, daughter..?"
Zhu Li, smiled, "sure..I'll call you soon, Caleb."
Caleb didn't even respond to Zhu Li's words, and was already looking at the file in front of him; the proposal that had actually been agreed upon.
Zhu Li smiled, red facedly but still pretended, that she hadn't been snubbed by Caleb, "nice meeting you, Mr. Stone."
Then Mr Zhu Peng and Zhu Li walked to an empty table to have their lunch.
"Someone from your past?" Mr Stone had been working with the Wang pharmaceutical for some years now. And this is the first time, he saw Caleb's face turned so cold.
"You could say that.." after years of working together, Caleb and Mr Stone had become good business partners as well as friends.
"I haven't seen that look on your face before.." Mr Stone said tentatively, "someone you didn't want to jave anything with but she's still pursuing you, nonetheless..is that it? Am I right?"
