"What!?" Caleb shot up from his seat.
"I called but you were not available.." Jia Xue repeated, calmly.
Caleb leaned away from the telephone as he spit out some curse words, in exasperation.
Caleb thought that after Jia Xue realised his feelings combined with the fact that they're now lovers; it would be a lot easier for the both of them. Their relationship would sail away smoothly.
Guess what? He was wrong. So wrong. If anything, it became harder for Caleb.
It seemed that Jia Xue didn't change much from before he became Caleb's lover and after.
He didn't treat Caleb differently, he didn't even change how he called Caleb. He still calls Caleb, Mr.President.
Of course, Caleb knew, he couldn't really show people how he spoilt Jia Xue so much, especially not to his team. It's a matter of being a professional but he had thought that at least Jia Xue could smile at him more and warm up to him more.
At home, of course, Caleb can now touch Jia Xue freely and they had slept together quiet a number of times but still Jia Xue seemed to have this invincible wall around him.
Caleb knew that Jia Xue might need time to really accept Caleb into his life but it had already been a few months now.
"So, you just decided to go..?"
A week ago, Jia Xue had informed Caleb that he and the team would be going on a field trip to Jianfengling Forest in Hainan. They're going to study some of the vegetation there and conduct a collaborative experiment with the Chinese Academy of Forestry based in Jianfengling, to test the sample of the herbs and vegetation found there.
Caleb knew that it was something that Jia Xue need to do but still he was reluctant to say yes.
He could not tolerate the fact of him going with other people and that Caleb had to bear being without the man for days.
So, he planned on going with Jia Xue on that field trip. That was why, he had been busy these past week, arranging his works in advance.
That was why Caleb had to attend an adhoc meeting this morning. The meeting was supposed to be on the day after tomorrow, but because he'd planned on going with Jia Xue, he changed it to today. This is the last advance works he did. And now, he thought he could go home and pack with his beloved.
To his utter disbelief, Caleb called and told him that they're already at the train station.
"What am I to you, Jia Xue?" Caleb asked, in deathly quiet voice. Knuckle white as he gripped the telephone.
"I thought that we love each other." Caleb knew he sounded so corny; if his friends heard him saying things like this they would be rolling off the floor laughing.
But Caleb just could not help this. When it comes to Jia Xue, he couldn't be cool or be in control. His emotions would be all over the place and he didn't even care.
"I do love you." Jia Xue, answered, feeling the blood reddening his neck and face.
"I have told you that, haven't I?"
Caleb sighed, feeling his anger subsiding at Jia Xue's words. He's so easy, just a simple 'I love you' from Jia Xue and he'd forgive him for anything.
"Wait there. " Caleb said.
"What?" Jia Xue blinked, "what for?"
"I'm coming with you." Caleb said, "I had been working like crazy, getting a week work done in advance because I had already made up my mind to go with you since you told me about it."
