Jia Xue opened his eyes slowly, and realised that he's not dead. He's still alive, because his body felt painful all over.
He's in a hospital room.
He looked around and saw his Gran, Caleb's parents, his sister and her husband and also Caleb's grandmother, around him, smiling and crying with joy, but he didn't see Caleb.
"Where's Caleb...?" Jia Xue shot the question, as he tried to get up off bed, "is he alright..? Where is he??"
The family looked at each other and then made way for Jia Xue to see the one he really wanted to see right now. He's standing at the corner of the room, frozen, looking at Jia Xue with tears streaming down his face.
"Let's leave first..." both the eldest people in the room, said almost at the same time, sensing that Caleb and Jia Xue needed this time to be alone.
The other family members were very reluctant but they knew, what the elders suggested was not really a suggestion. It was an order.
So, all the women gave Jia Xue a hug and a kiss on either the forehead or the cheek, crying as they did do, whilst the men patted his shoulder giving Jia Xue a nod and a smile, before everybody walked out of the room.
That leaves only Caleb who was still standing too far away, and Jia Xue who had just woken up.
"You took cyanide- a spoonful...And you almost died!" Caleb hissed across the room. Jia Xue could see Caleb visibly trembling, and he knew exactly why.
"But I didn't..I'm alive..." Jia Xue whispered looking at Caleb.
"Your heart stopped twice when the doctors were reviving you, administering you with the antidotes..."
"Caleb...? I'm sorry..."Jia Xue felt his own heart began to break from the heart wrenching sound of Caleb's heart broken voice.
"They put you into an induced comatose state for a month, and then you continued to be in coma for another month.." Caleb was crying but he was still hissing and refusing to come to Jia Xue.
Jia Xue felt his own tears began trickling down his cheeks, "Caleb ah.."
"Do you know how it feels, going through every day, thinking that I might lose you any minute, any seconds?" Caleb gritted his teeth, trembling so much his teeth were chattering, "I really seriously considered killing myself before losing you.."
Jia Xue gasped, and even though he knew that he would not be able to do much, Jia Xue moved his body, trying to walked out of the bed. He wanted to hug Caleb even if it meant that he had to crawl to get to him.
Caleb's eyes narrowed when he saw Jia Xue moving, "what are you doing? Jia Xue ah..!" Jia Xue had just woken up in full consciousness. He had woken up a few times before, but he was still delirious in both of the times. He possibly didn't even remember everything that had happened during those times. In both times, Caleb was the first person Jia Xue saw, but as soon as Jia Xue touched Caleb's face, he would mumbled incomprehensibly then fainted again.
