"Please, sir. You can't come in.!"
Caleb knew that. He knew that he couldn't come in. He knew that but he couldn't take it.
It took three male nurses to hold him back, as Jia Xue was wheeled into the ICU operation theatre.
He was able to flung everybody away minutes later but the operation theatre was already locked off.
All he could do is plaster himself against the door, and cried, howling and groaning unashamedly, calling Jia Xue's name over and over again.
At the corner of the room, his family and Jia Xue's grandmother stood watching the heart breaking scene painfully.
Caleb's mother cried into Caleb's father's embrace and his sister was slumped on the bench with her husband hugging her. Madam Wang - who had never lost her composure before, was trembling, not knowing what to do. For the first time in her life, she couldn't process any thoughts at all. Jia Xue's grandmother stood beside her, watching Caleb as he slid to the floor, losing all will to stand.
She gasped and then walked to Caleb, bending down, forcing Caleb to look at her, "Caleb..look at me.."
They saw Caleb coming in with Jia Xue, with twenty hospital staff consist of doctors and nurses. Caleb was continuously calling Jia Xue's name, pleading jia xue to open his eyes.
The look on his face told them that he's already tortured beyond belief.
"Caleb Wang. Listen to me." Again Mrs Yin had to force Caleb's eyes, who didn't want to settle at her face, to look at her by clamping her palms on Caleb's cheeks.
Caleb's tears were streaming down his cheeks, and he didn't want to look at Jia Xue's grandmother because he didn't know what to say to her. He had no words of comfort for anybody else right now.
"Jia Xue will live..." but somehow, Mrs Yin was calm; she's a whole lot calmer than any of the Wang family, especially Caleb.
Caleb looked at Jia Xue's grandmother, without any confidence at all, "he drank cyanide..his heart stopped once, inside the ambulance." Caleb whispered brokenly. And Caleb almost opened the ambulance door and jumped off to his own death when Jia Xue went flatliner.
The medical team inside the ambulance managed to revive Jia Xue and jolted his heart to beat again. They administered the antidotes all the way to the hospital but, Jia Xue barely responded. And Caleb had been chanting Jia Xue's name and holding on to Jia Xue's hand, ever since they got into the ambulance. Jason Guan who was inside the same ambulance could only watch helplessly at Jia Xue. But at that exact time; he knew that he didn't have a place in Jia Xue's life. And looking at Caleb, then, he knew, that he would never be able to love Jia Xue the way Caleb does. His feelings is nowhere near as strong; even though he thought that his feelings for Jia Xue was already strong; it would never surpass that of Caleb Wang's.
