The next few days were quite difficult for me. I avoided Lewis, just like Pete asked me to. I occasionally saw Jane, but I just shrugged her questions off. I didn’t want her saying anything to him, so I kept my mouth shut. I still didn’t know her that well, so I didn’t know if I trusted her or not. But, I still wanted to keep her on my good side. She did know about Patrick, after all.

I had lunch by myself. I usually went to the writing club at lunch, and I sometimes went to Mr Peters’ room to eat and write. He would often read my work and give me pointers. It was really the only thing I enjoyed about school. There wasn’t much else to it. There was exam after exam, and I revised a lot at home, much to the guy’s annoyance. They complained about how they never saw me anymore because I was always in my room. I tried to explain, but they told me that because I was Patrick’s daughter, education may as well not exist. I ignored them, of course, and continued to revise. I wanted to do well. I wanted to prove to them that I am actually kind of smart and that I was good at some things. I wanted them to be proud of me.

But that all changed when Lewis confronted me. I accidentally ran into him whilst on my way home. I could feel my cheeks hotting up. I hadn’t seen him in a while and I didn’t want to either. I still didn’t know what happened, but I wanted to respect Pete and not get involved with them.

I tried brushing our passing off, but Lewis just grabbed hold of my arm and yanked me back, ‘’Why don’t you eat with us anymore?’’

I didn’t want to lie, ‘’I’ve been doing a lot of writing at lunch times, catch up and all,’’

‘’But it’s exam season? Too late for catch up,’’

‘’I mean like, extra work. I’ve just moved here and need some boosting for upcoming exams,’’ I shrugged, hoping he’d buy it. I wasn’t going to tell him about the club, it was kind of embarrassing.

‘’Don’t give me that bullshit, what’s going on?’’

He scoffed at me but I pulled myself from his grip and quickly walked away. Of course, he didn’t give up. He came running after me and grabbed me again. This time, it was a stronger grip and I knew it would leave a bruise.

‘’What’s going on with you? I thought you were cool?’’ He looked me up and down, a disgusted expression on his face.

‘’I, I have to go,’’

‘’Not,’’ he held be back, ‘’before you tell me what’s going on,’’ He glared. I wasn’t going to get out of this one and we both knew it. I didn’t want to cry, and from that second, I knew what Pete was talking about. God bless his sister, and God bless me.

‘’I’ve been told to stay away from you,’’

‘’By who?’’

‘’My friend,’’

He rolled his eyes, ‘’What’s his name? I bet he doesn’t even know me,’’

I gulped. This wasn’t going to pass easily and I needed to get myself out of it. But at the same time, I didn’t want to grass up Pete. Weighing up my options, Pete was a guy and I was this scrawny teenager, he could handle it.

‘’Pete,’’ He narrowed his eyes, ‘’Wentz,’’

Lewis slammed down my arm, making it hit my side violently. He stomped his foot on the ground and groaned loudly.

‘’That piece of shit!? Not him again. God, I thought I could trust you. Another one of you Wentz’ running around, wait till my brother finds out…’’

I watched as Lewis walked off down the road, hands stuffed in pockets. I wanted to cry, scream and runaway and hide all at once. But being the person I am, I walked home like everything was normal and I was happy as Larry.

‘’What is it?’’ Patrick looked at me as soon as I walked into the house. I slipped my bag off the shoulder and pretended to look confused.

‘’What?’’

‘’You. Something’s wrong. What is it?’’

I looked at Patrick. He knew. I wasn’t getting out of this situation either. He stared at me as I drank my water. I didn’t want to lie to him. He didn’t deserve to be lied to, especially after everything he’d done for me.

‘’A-are the guys here?’’

Patrick shook his head.

‘’It’s Lewis, and his brother,’’.
