Chapter 24

I shook off what happened and continued working. How can someone be so rude and idiotic. I shook my head and cleaned the tables down with a rag. The day went by slow, but I saw texting Shawn as the light at the end of the tunnel. I should take back this diner, I just don't know how it would be possible. After a long shift, I finally finished what I needed to do and I went back home. As soon as I got to the apartment I texted Shawn.

Me: hey babe how's it going?

Sent. I smiled at the text and I put my phone down before going into my room and putting on some sweats and Shawn's hoodie. I didn't know what to do with myself, I had nothing to do for once. I went into my brothers room and I saw the boys taking a nap even though it was three-thirty in the afternoon. I sighed and looked at my phone, no response. He's most likely busy doing pop star things. I turned on the tv and recorded the Jimmy Fallon show and the People's Choice award before I could forget and I turned off the tv. I went on my phone and opened my Instagram to be met with multiple follow requests. I had gone from a couple hundred to thousands in days. Wow, this is what good popularity feels like. I decided I might as well make all my accounts public. After switching my accounts I went on google and search up Shawn Mendes.

Multiple news sources came up talking about his songs and his nomination for an award, but one article caught my eye.

"Who is Shawn Mendes' new girl and what is her dark past?"

I looked at it for a second, debating whether or not I should open it, but I shook my head. I shouldn't let it get to me. They're probably all lies made up by the press. I turned off my phone and grabbed my car keys, I'm going to visit Shawn's mom and see how she's doing. I drove the ten minute drive to his house and got out of the car. I made my way to the door and knocked on it. After two minutes I heard the door begin to unlock and I was greeted with Karen's kind smile.

"Nicole! What brings you here? Come in!" She said and hugged me.

"I thought I'd pay you a visit, I haven't seen you since New Years!" I said and we both walked in as she closed the door behind us. She led me to the dining room and we sat down across from each other.

"So how have you been hun?" She said and held my hands in hers.

"I've been good actually, I just miss Shawn I guess." I slightly chuckled and she smiled.

"Yeah it's hard, but he'll be back soon don't worry." She smiled. "Just know you and your brothers are welcome here anytime."

"And I thank you for that, truly."

"Would you like something to drink? Tea, coffee, water?"

"A coffee if that's fine?"

"Coming up." She smiled and went into the kitchen to make a pot of coffee. As I looked around the house I suddenly felt a buzz from my packet.

Sexy Shawn: hi baby. It's going good we're getting ready for the show and just chillin, having fun. And you?

I smiled.

Me: that's cool babe. I'm glad you're having fun. Well I realized how much I miss you. I'm actually here with your mom drinking coffee.

Sent.

"How do you get used to Shawn leaving each time, don't you guys feel sad?"

"Well it isn't easy that's for sure, but he's off doing what makes him happy and that makes us happy. We support him and that's what matters. Anyways, he's never gone for too long, he always comes back to visit." She smiled as walked over with the two cups of coffee in her hands.

"It's crazy how famous he is."

"It is, I don't think I ever get used to the idea of a pop star in our family." She said and we chuckled.

Sexy Shawn: I miss you too, so much, I wish I was there now. Omg that's so cool, I hope you guys are having fun lol.

Me: I wish you were here too. It's boring over here when I'm not with you. Lol it is fun we're just talking :)

"Sorry I don't mean to be rude, Shawn is texting me." I said as I put down my phone.

"Not at all sweetie I understand, tell him that he should pick up the phone and call his mother while he's at it." She said and we laughed. We were talking for hours and it felt great to finally talk to someone about the positives. After we finished talking I helped her clean the pot and cups before I left.

"I had a great time, thank you for welcoming me into your home." I said and hugged her.

"Of course hun, come around anytime. Drive safe." She said and I opened the door.

"Thank you! I will, have a nice night." I said and smiled. I walked out of the house and towards my car. As soon as I got to my apartment I texted Shawn again.

Me: hey babe I hope you're having fun. Talk to you tomorrow. Goodnight :)

Sent.

I put my phone to charge on my desk and crawled into my bed. It was eight o'clock and it was the first time I will go to sleep early. I felt exhausted, but I also felt happier. I closed my eyes and slowly dozed off into a deep sleep, thinking about Shawn Mendes.
