Once school ended I grabbed my things and made my way to my car so I could go to work. I grabbed my car keys, opened the car door, and started the ignition. I drove down the crowded streets and it took about ten minutes to get to the diner. I parked my car in the empty parking lot and made my way inside the old building.
"Hey Nicole." Veronica said and I smiled. "How are you?"
"Hey Veronica, I''m great and you?" I said as I went behind the counter and put on my apron.
"I'm good sweetie, thanks for asking." She smiled and I put my notepad in my pocket along with my pencil. "What time are you working until today?"
"Well my break is at seven and my shift ends at eleven."
"Damn, why so late?"
"Well, I need the money so I'm picking up extra shifts." I shrugged and cleaned the counter top.
"Ay mija." She shook her head. "Okay, good luck, I need to go run my errands."
"Alright, see you later." I said and she took off her apron, hanging it on the nail on the wall. "Oh, where's Mike by the way?"
"He said he was going to be back for the dinner shift, but you know him."
"Yeah, alright, see you tomorrow girl." I said and she smiled, waving before walking out of the door. I continued to clean the tables, seats, and I swept the floor. After a few hours only two men came into the diner and sat down. I gave them each menus and waited patiently as they chose what they wanted to eat.
"Excuse me miss, I think we're ready." The man said and I walked over to their table.
"Alright, what can I get for you two today." I took out my notepad and pencil.
"I'll take the Turkey club with a side of fries, no tomato, and a coke please." He said and closed his menu as I wrote everything down.
"And you?" I asked the man sitting in front of him.
"I'll take a cheese burger with onions, a side salad, and an ice tea please."
I took down his order and as I was writing everything down I could see people out of the corner of my eye outside the diner with cameras. I furrowed my eyebrows and shook my head, trying not to pay attention to them.
"Alright those will be out shortly." I smiled, grabbing their menus before walking behind the counter and placing the orders. I looked out the window once again and I could see the men with cameras taking pictures of a jeep parked in the parking lot, it's probably Shawn. I saw Shawn get out of his car wearing a grey zip up sweatshirt, black jeans, and some black shoes along with his sunglasses. He made his way toward the diner and would give the paparazzi a peace sign. He finally made it to the door and I had a smile plastered on my face.
"Hey pop star." I said and walked over to give him a hug.
"Hey diner girl." He smiled and hugged me.
"Nicole, orders up!" Manuel said and I let go of Shawn. He sat down at the counter while I grabbed the orders. I grabbed the two plates and set them down at the table.
"Is there anything else I can get you guys?" I asked and they shook their head.
"We're fine, thank you hun." One of them said and they both smiled. I walked back over to Shawn who was looking at the menu.
"What can I get you babe?"
"A water and some fries if that's fine." He smiled and I nodded. I grabbed a cup and placed the order of fries before filling the cup with ice and water.
