"Mr. and Mrs.Mendes." I tilted my head, gesturing a salutation and screaming on the inside. They probably hate me.

"It's nice to see you Nicole." Karen smiled and reached in to give me a hug. I was surprised, expecting a rude remark, but I hugged her right back. "Alicia, it's really nice to see you too, all of you." She smiled and my mom flashed one back to her.

I stood there awkwardly, holding my bag in my hands, and watched as my brothers hugged his parents. Should I say something? No right, I mean, he's obviously here with a date.

"Nicole, this um Camila Cabello." He introduced me to her and she shook my hand.

"Nice to meet you Camila." I smiled shyly.

"Nice to meet you too." She grinned a bit.

"Nicole Ortega." The host called, saving me from having to do any more talking at all.

"Well, that's us, it really was nice seeing you all, and it was nice meeting you Camila." I said as kindly as I could, cringing at myself.

"Have a nice night." Manny concluded and we all nodded, following the host to our table. We all sat down at the nicely set up table, a candle lighting it up in the center.

"Your server will be right with you." She nodded and we smiled.

"Well, that took us by surprise." I sighed and my mom and brother let out a small chuckle. We looked through the menu and I helped Hunter choose what he wanted off of the kids menu.

"Can I get cheese pizza?" He asked me and I nodded.

"Whatever you want bub." I called him by his nickname and he smiled, kicking his feet happily. I smiled and looked down at my menu before catching a glimpse of Shawn walking to his table. They were sat across the room from us, Shawn pulling out a chair for Camila.

Like what are the odds of him choosing to eat here of all places? And at the same time? It's like a cosmic joke. The universe wants us to run into each other.

I sighed, shaking my head and tried to enjoy my night, pushing my thoughts of him to the back of my head.

"How was school today Jacob?" I asked, trying to keep myself distracted.

"It was good, we got to do this project in chem where we burned magnesium and messed with a bunch of other elements in like test tubes and stuff." He beamed and we listened to his story. "It was cool, the magnesium burned so quick and it created this bright light out of what seemed like nothing."

"I remember doing that and I almost got in trouble because I left my burner on." I chuckled and he just shook his head.

"Makes sense." He snickered and I lightly shoved him.

"And you bub?" I turned to Hunter.

"We learned about the times table and later at lunch we all played kickball, it was fun, my team won so teacher gave us candy." He explained, a pensive look on his face for some reason. It wasn't long before our server approached us and took our order. I ordered myself some fettuccine alla panna and Hunter's pizza while my mom and brother ordered penne arrabbiate.

"I thought Shawn was away." My brother started a new conversation and I shifted in my seat.

"I did too." I sat back and the server came back with our drinks, my mom having a glass of wine that looked so appetizing at the moment.

"Anyway," I changed the subject and lifted up my glass of iced tea. "Cheers to our mom who works so hard and deserves this promotion, we're proud of you mom." I smiled and everyone lifted up their glass, my mom's eyes gleaming a bit.
