I placed my phone in a bag of rice, hoping that some how it would bring it back to life. I continued to work my eight hour shift and I couldn't wait for it to be over so I could go home and sleep during the small amount of hours I had. I was on my fifth hour of work and I heard the front door open. I turned my head to see Shawn walk in and he flashed me a warm smile. I smiled, surprised to see him and I waved like an idiot, catching myself before walking over to the table he sat at.
"Hey, what brings you here again?" I asked him, setting a menu down in front of him.
"Just wanted to see if you wanted to hang out after you're done with work." He grinned and I hesitated.
"I um, don't-"
"It's okay if you can't, I understand." He interrupted me and I thought about it. What's the harm in hanging out with him? It seemed like a good idea, why say no?
"I will." I smiled and his face lit up."I get off in three hours, is that fine?"
"Of course." He nodded.
"Okay, what can I get for you?"
"I'll take water and a burger please."
"Coming right up." I went to put the order in and I continued to clean around. After a few minutes I heard the door open again and in came the group from yesterday. I rolled my eyes and continued doing what I had to do.
"Nicole! Tables, now!" Mike yelled. I swear I would punch him so hard given the chance. I walked towards the table they were sitting at, only Kyara wasn't there. I could hear giggling in the background as I walked to their table. I turned around to see her sitting on the table, talking to Shawn. She was saying things to him, things I couldn't hear, but every time I would look at him he had a confused look on his face. Finally, he shook his head, got up, leaving money on the table, and he left. I was left dumbfounded, not knowing why he would leave so suddenly.
Kyara came my towards the table and took a seat with a smirk plastered on her face. I furrowed my eyebrows as she just stared me down.
"What can I get for you guys?" I sighed and held my notepad up. They just looked at me and laughed. Again, the door opened and in came a cute boy that seemed to be around our age, and he sat down on one of the stools.
"We'll all take some cokes." Kyara demanded and I rolled my eyes. I grabbed six glasses and filled them up with coke before placing them on a platter and grabbing some straws. I picked up the platter and made my way to their table when I saw one of the guys get up. He passed by me and before I could notice, he placed his foot in front of mine making me trip and drop all of the glasses on the floor. I was on the ground, soaked in coke and I could hear them laughing. I shook my head and suddenly I felt someone grab my arm, helping me get up, it was the cute guy that came in.
"Dude what the hell." He said as he lifted me up.
"What, its freaking funny." Freddie, the guy who tripped me, said.
"No its not you fucking ass bag."
"What'd you call me?" He got closer.
"He called you a fucking ass bag." I said and punched him in the face. He held his nose and I tried my best to clean my self up. He scoffed and they all left, walking passed the guy who helped me and I. I tried my best to clean myself off and finally I began to pick up the broken glass and wipe the coke of the floor.
"Are you okay?" The boy asked and helped me pick up the things.
"Yeah, I'm fine, thank you for helping me."
"Helping you? I'm afraid that you'll knock out the next guy that comes in here." He chuckled and I smiled.
"Well, I know how to protect myself." I shrugged and we both stood up. "I'm Nicole."
