I got home from school, throwing my keys on the table and walking into the kitchen so I could grab the vodka bottle from the top shelf of the cupboard, behind all the cereal boxes. I sighed exhaustedly, grabbing a cup and pouring myself a drink, taking a sip after I put the bottle away and looking out of the window to see the same brick wall as always. This week was excruciating long, going back and forth from home, school, and work. It was especially stressful seeing that I am beginning to prepare for my AP exams and I have to revise my final draft of my speech.
I took off my shoes at the door and chugged it entirely leaving it in the sink before being startled by my mom.
"Mija is that you?" She asked and I jumped, dropping my phone on the floor. She chuckled and came to give me a hug.
"Hi mom." I slightly smiled, hoping she wouldn't smell the alcohol on my breath.
"How was school?"
"Very tiring and never ending." I rolled my eyes and sat down at the table. "Woah where are you going looking all cute?"
She was wearing white jeans and a beige blouse along with one of her black blazers.
"Remember, I have my interview today at one of the offices, the sales rep job." She pointed out.
"Oh shit I completely forgot, what time is it at so I could give you a ride."
"It's at five, but no worries, I'm going to take the bus, I want to get a feel just in case I have to take it every day to the city."
"You sure?" I questioned her, a worried look on my face.
"Positive." She smiled as she winked. "Where are your brothers?"
"Jacob has basketball practice today until six and Hunter had a sleepover birthday party at Jake Robinson's house."
"Are you going to pick up Jacob?"
"Usually he carpools with Peter." I smiled and she nodded.
"I left you some pasta in the fridge, I have to get going mija."
"Thank you mom, good luck, you'll knock them out of the park."
"Thanks." She smiled and kissed my head.
"Text me when you get there please." I said as she grabbed her purse and coat.
"Of course, see you tonight."
I nodded and she exited out the door, leaving me in the silence of my apartment. I stared at the floor blankly, grabbing my phone and checking to see if Shawn had responded to my text about hanging out later. I haven't seen him since this past weekend, he was even more stressed than I was. He had to meet with his whole crew, prepare for his next single, plan a music video etc. He was constantly up very late, texting me until three in the morning.
I shook my head, searching for Tanya's contact number and shooting her a text.
Me: Wanna come over and continue watching Grey's?
Within a minute she replied.
Tanya: Be there in ten minutes!
I smiled, heading upstairs to change into my gray sweats and a navy blue, long sleeve shirt. I put on my vans and quickly took the elevator downstairs to grab the mail since I get paid today. I opened the locked box with my key and grabbed the minor amount of mail. I closed the box and went back into the elevator, seeing my paycheck at the front of the stack and smiling. Once I got up to the apartment, I grabbed the mail that belonged to me and went back upstairs to my room, preparing the episode of Grey's Anatomy on my computer Tanya and I left off on.
