The bell rang and I closed my book before grabbing my bag and leaving my last period. I walked to my locker and opened it to see a picture of Shawn and I at the beach, making me smile. After we got back from Mexico Shawn had to travel until the end of this month and left a few days later. I didn't want him to leave, but I knew he had to and I knew I would see him soon. He kept apologizing due to the fact that he would be missing my birthday, but I told him not to worry about it. I closed my locker door and walked towards the parking lot so I could leave to pick up my brothers. As I walked to my car I heard footsteps run up behind me and someone call out my name.
"Nicole!" Adrian yelled and I stopped in front of my car.
"Oh hey Adrian." I said and we both smiled.
"Hey, how have you been?"
"Pretty good, thanks and you?"
"Good, thank you, I just came to ask you when you wanted to work on the project since it's due at the beginning of next month."
"Shoot yeah, sorry I've just been so busy with work and school. When are you free?"
"I'm free tonight and Sunday night."
"Oh I have work Sunday, I guess I can tonight." I shrugged.
"Okay cool, my house? Seven?"
"Sounds good." I smiled and he nodded.
"Oh and Principal Chambers was looking for you."
"Oh okay, thanks, see you tonight." I smiled and I walked back inside the school, towards the main office.
I knocked on the principal's door and waited patiently for the door to open.
"Ah Nicole!" He chimed and gestured for me to walk into his office.
"Hello Principal Chambers, you wanted to see me?" I said and he closed the door behind him before taking a seat in his black, cushioned chair.
"Please take a seat." He smiled and I did as I was told.
"Am I in trouble? I know I've been missing school lately, but I have been getting all my work done on time."
"No not at all." He chuckled. "I called you in here today because I would like you to give the valedictorian speech at your graduation."
My eyes went wide. "Wait, you're serious?" I asked and he smiled.
"Now I know you have been absent, but you have always been an outstanding student ever since you were enrolled in the school. With everything that has been going on in your life and you being able to be in advanced classes along with clubs and sports, you show what it truly mean to persevere in life."
"This is an honor Mr.Chambers, thank you so much. I promise I won't let you down."
"Now I'm going to need your rough draft by the beginning of April and the final draft by the end of April please or do you need more time?"
"No, that'll be fine sir, thank you." I smiled.
"Okay Nicole and if you ever need anything, please just let me know. I know these past years haven't been so easy for you so please don't hesitate to ask for anything." He said and I nodded.
"Thank you, truly." We both stood up and he stuck out his hand. I shook his hand and walked out of his office, towards the parking lot. I guess all of the late nights were really worth it. I smiled as I walked to my car and once I got in I quickly called Shawn. After a few rings he finally picked up.
"Hello?" He answered.
"Babe you won't believe it!" I yelled and I heard some things shuffling over the speaker.
