Chapter 43

"What do you mean her hand moved?" The doctor asked as he checked my mom's eyes with his small flashlight.

"I was holding her hand in mine and it started to twitch, then she moved her fingers." I said. I bit my finger nail anxiously, waiting for him to say something. I looked back and saw the nurse playing with my brother out in the waiting room, making me take a deep breathe in and look back at the doctor.

"What can I say Nicole, have you gotten enough sleep lately?" He furrowed his eyebrows and put his flashlight in his lab coat's pocket.

"I didn't imagine it, I swear she moved." I sighed and sat down.

"It was most likely muscle movement, I'll keep checking up on her every hour." He slightly smiled. "And please try to get some rest."

"I will, do you think it's fine if I stay here tonight?"

"Sure, I'll have them bring in the cot." He smiled and I nodded. I lowered my sleeves down to my hands and crossed my arms as he walked out of the room. I took one last look at my mom and walked out to the waiting room.

"Come on Hunter, time to go." I smiled and he took my hand. "Thank you for looking after him Stacy."

"Anytime Nicole, see you later?"

"Yeah, I'm going to stay here tonight." I smiled and walked into the elevator. We made our way back to the parking garage, getting off on level P1 and walking towards our car. Hunter got into the back seat and I closed the door behind him before I got into the driver's seat. I started the car and drove back to the house so I could pack some clothes in a bag and leave Hunter with Jacob. As I drove one of Shawn's song started to play and I could hear Hunter humming.

"You know this song bub?" I chuckled as I looked at him through the rear view mirror.

"No, but I like it." He shrugged as he played with one of his toys.

"You know this is Shawn right?"

"Really? Your boyfriend?"

"Yes, my boyfriend." I giggled.

"Where is Shawn?"

"He's in Germany bub."

"Can he come over tomorrow?"

"No he can't bub." I chuckled. "He'll be here soon to hang out with us." 

The drive back home was silent, the radio playing lightly in the background and Hunter occasionally humming to the songs. We had arrived to the apartment in a matter of minutes and Hunter excitedly got out of the car while I closed the door behind me and clicked the lock on my keys, causing the alarm to go off. We walked up to our apartment, taking off our shoes once we opened the door. Hunter went up to his room and I followed behind him, walking into my room to pack up my stuff. As I reached for my backpack I heard a knock at my door way. 

"Hey." Jacob said. 

"Hey, what's up brother."  I smiled and walked over to my dresser to grab a pair of jeans and tights. 

"Where are you going?" 

"The hospital, I'm going to stay with mom." 

"Why? Is everything okay? Where did you guys go right now?" He furrowed his eyebrows. 

"I took Hunter with me to the hospital, I wanted to visit mom and he was awake so I took the opportunity for him to finally see mom." I sighed and went to my closet. 

"You took him? I thought we agreed that we wouldn't Nicole!" 

I shrugged. "Look, I took him because I think it's about time he knew the truth." 

"Nicole." 

"Look Jacob I don't need you to yell at me right now. I need to pack because I don't know if you care, but mom moved her hand." 

"Wait, seriously?" His eyes went wide. 

"Yes, seriously." I said as I stuffed a shirt and a hoodie in the bag before grabbing my undergarments. 

"Look, I'm sorry, I just don't want Hunter being tainted by what happened, you know?" 

"I get you Jacob, you just have to trust me." I sighed and placed my hand on his shoulder. He looked down and I smiled, pulling him into a tight hug. 

"Love you sister." 

"Love you too little brother."  I took a deep breathe in and hugged him tighter. We let go of each other and I continued to pack while he went through my phone on my bed. 

"What are you looking at?" I chuckled as I grabbed my toothbrush and face wash. 

"Nothing, just pictures of you and Shawn on instagram. You guys look cute together." He smiled and kept scrolling. "A lot of people think so too." 

"Really?" 

"Hell yeah, half of the people at my school come up to me everyday asking about you and Shawn. It's crazy how famous you're getting sis." 

"Famous I am not little brother." I chuckled and zipped up my bag before sitting next to him. 

"You know he's changed you right?" 

"What do you mean?" 

"You're happier and I haven't seen you sulking so much." 

"I don't know how to explain it, he makes me feel whole again." I smiled to myself. 

"Speaking of the devil, he's texting you." He said and he started to type away. 

"Jacob!" I yelled and tried to snatch the phone away from him, but he ran away. I chased after him and I finally tackled him on the ground, taking my phone from his hands. 

"You're so annoying." I laughed and got up. 

"Jesus, I didn't know you played football." He groaned. "I'm going to my room, try not to tackle anyone else." 

He got up and walked to his room as I walked back into mine, closing the door behind me. I looked at my phone and saw that my brother had texted Shawn a bunch of gibberish, making me laugh. 

Me: I'm sorry that was my brother, what's up babe. 

Sexy Shawn: haha I was sorta confused, nothing I just wanted to say hi. 

Me: well hello darling :)

Sexy Shawn: heyyy darling is my thing :( 

Me: too bad

Sexy Shawn: is it still okay for me to call you tonight? I'm free when it's six your time. 

Me: Of course, I'll be ready. 

Sexy Shawn: okay, talk to you soon, love you
