Bee POV

I inspect the line, making sure they are ready and looking good. This is a crucial thing, it should go well.

"Okay, you lot." I say sternly to those assembled. "Yo will be here any minute, remember everything I told you."

They fidget, making noises and protesting.

"Silence." I shout. "Be cute in front of him, not me, and you squeak one more time hamster and I will fry you."

They all stand straight again going silent. I think I got a good selection, sheep, pig, duck, bunny, frog, cat, dog, hamster and a few things in-between.

"What's going on P?" Yo asks walking to me, furball on his shoulder.

I already explained a few basics to him, and one of the most important things is what he will choose today.

"It's time for you to choose a familiar." I smile. "Every witch needs one, it helps focus your magic."

It would also help soak up energy should it leak unexpectedly, and since Yo was going to be away it was best he has one.

"I don't know P'Bee." He sighs after watching the line for a while. "Where is your familiar?"

I point to the small pond nearby. "Goldie has been mine for a long time."

"A fish?" He smiles seeing her swim around.

That really wasn't a smart choice, a familiar should be able to go with you everywhere, but I already chose her before I realised. I won her at the fair when I was young and loved her, so she became mine.

Yo becomes frustrated after an hour, he doesn't know how to choose. The furball is in a fight with the cat, who traps him under her paw. Yo quickly intervenes, shooing the cat away, annoyed she tried to hurt Spark. He's definitely not choosing the cat, so maybe the dog or bunny.

"Sit Yo, and listen to me." I tell him. "Close your eyes. Think of something warm, friendly, and gives you a feeling of safety, or that it's going to be okay."

He sighs looking sceptical before he does, I feel him calm, his magic steady as he thinks. He slowly opens his eyes and looks around at the assembled animals, playing or walking around near him. They all want to be chosen, it's an honour and he's the forest witch.

I see him smile, he has chosen. Does he want the duck? Well if it feels right its right, you can't argue with the bond.

"I want Spark." He smiles dazzlingly at me.

Wait what? I look at the furball, who's stopped bouncing on the duck's wing, his eyes huge staring at Yo.

"But...but Yo." I say quickly. "You need an animal."

"Only Spark feels right to me." He smiles at the furball. "What do you think Spark? Want to be my familiar?"

The little furball nods vigorously. I'm getting a headache, it's not a good idea, a wisp being a familiar, right forest? But when I listen I just hear a happy hum... you planned this, didn't you? And the magic sends a push...I knew it, you did!

That furball has always been a little different than the other wisps, the minute Yo named him I knew he was getting attached.

"But a wisp has never been a familiar Yo."

"Please P'Bee." He looks at me pleadingly. "I really want Spark."

The little furballs crying a river, sniffling near Yo, who's patting his head. The forest sends me a push...the match made. It's a bad match, I tell the forest, who in return pushes me to look at Goldie... yeh, I was told the same thing... I sigh, decisions coming to bite you, I get it.
