"And then he jumped off!" Henry exclaimed, laughing.

I laughed with him. "That's it? He didn't do anything after?"

Henry shook his head. "Well, he did take a bottle of rum with him, but that's it."

Smiling, I picked up some food for the inn's chef I worked for. I handed the vendor my money and walked away with Henry in tow, struggling to keep up with me in the busy streets.

This is how I wanted it to be, just me and Henry. But he'd never see me the way I saw him. Especially since he embarked on a journey across the seas with Jack Sparrow, and the prettiest woman alive, Carina Barbossa. Me, I was a petty kitchen cleaner, an errand runner, I didn't even have that great of an education. I had a decent one, but it wasn't enough to get me a better job.

I sighed, thinking of what I wished my life could have been like. Henry noticed my mood change, and stopped me, grasping my shoulder with one hand and tilting my head up to face him with another.

"Hey, hey, hey. What's wrong?"

I shook my head, shaking Henry's hand off of me and continuing on my way to the kitchen I worked at. I didn't get very far before Henry stopped me again.

"I'm not in the mood for it, Henry." I told him simply. I made my way to the kitchen's back entrance.

Henry stopped me a third time right before I walked to the door and opened it. "No, Joy. What's wrong?"

He took my grocery basket from me and put it down beside him. "Tell me what's wrong, Joy. It hurts me to see you like this."

My eyes widened. Henry likes me? I thought.

How would you know? The other side of me reasoned.

"It's nothing." I replied, shaking my head.

"Joy." Henry said sternly.

I sighed. "Fine. I like you, okay? But you could never like me back! You obviously like Ms. Carina better, anyway."

"Who said that?"

"It's kind of obvious! You went on a journey with her across the seas, in which you could have gotten closer to her!" With every word I took a step closer to the kitchen's door.

"What? Why would you say that? I don't like her! At least not in that way!" Henry defended himself.

"Fine, then! Give me one reason why you don't like her!"

Henry's eyes softened. "I don't like her because she doesn't have your personality. She doesn't have the same sense of humor. She doesn't have your beauty. She's brilliant, yes, but she doesn't have your street smarts." With every reason, Henry took a step towards me.

"I only asked for one reason, I never asked for an essay." I muttered, my back now against the door and my hand on the door handle.

"Don't you see?" Henry asked me, his eyes pleading. "I love you."

I stood there frozen, not knowing what to do. But I recovered from my shock when I felt his lips on mine. I responded by wrapping my arms around his neck, which caused him to place his arms around my waist.

When he pulled away, he was red-faced. He sent me a shy, yet reassuring smile, and picked up my basket, handing it to me.

"I've been wanting to do that for a while now." he remarked.

I smiled back at him, giving him another quick kiss before heading into the kitchen.

Henry reassured me with another smile. "I'll be here waiting for you."
