"How did you survive? You were my age...I can't fight-"

"I didn't fight..."

"Then, how?"

My mind draws to a blank as the only thing I could think of was the truth.

"Sebastian saved my life."

"But how? One man taking on a whole group of murderers?"

"Well...you see...-"

"I'm not a man, my dear." My eyes widen to the size of saucers as the world fall from his lips. Why would he scare away our child in this way? "I'm a demon. Your Mother's demon, to be precise."

I-

What the-

Why the-

"So that's why you have red eyes?"

No one has ever actually pointed that out, I'm honestly surprised that his beautiful eyes haven't been noticed as the oddity they are.

"Yes, That is exactly why."

"And why you killed the scumbag?"

Fuck.

"Yes. How did you-?"

"I'm not a fool, Father. I followed you both. Watched as you killed him and...and the moments afterwards. I thought that maybe you were doing it out of spite but after hearing you, knowing the man I had only known through the tales of a drunkard I-...I wanted to be your daughter. I wanted Astre to be your son. I wanted to make you happy, just like you did when you killed that bastard for me. When you showed your true colours to me. Showed that the 'Evil Nobleman' wasn't as evil as many believed." She doesn't cease her hold on the arms wrapped delicately around her waist. In fact, she holds them closer as she explains herself, a stunning smile growing on her pretty little face. Her small hand grasping mine as she displays her undying appreciation of me.

"Why didn't you try to escape sooner? If we had known of your troubles we would have been welcoming." My demon so eloquently puts it, with gentle, loving words laced with concern for the safety of our beloved yet unexpected children.

"Do you truly believe that the scars on my arms are the only ones I possess? I tried many more times than you can imagine. And I gained scars that lie where the sun doesn't shine. Scars that only Mey-Rin, my dear maid, has seen by accident....I'm surprised she has not mentioned it yet, she only saw them this very morning."

That bastard...

He...

He not only touched he-

"You wished he was dead didn't you? In fact, you wanted to kill him with your own two hands and yet you never could. Because he never gave you the chance to try." I state rather obviously.

The pieces of the puzzle that has become my daughter now fit into place, her jigsaw coming to a conclusion and yet, the edges need to be filled. The story, unclear.

"Yes. But I was not strong enough to do it myself... I prayed that someone would do it for me. In fact, I showed both you and Elizabeth my scars for a reason. The bastard used to tell me how much he hated you, your wealth, and your title as the king of the underworld. I began to feel connected to you after years of him spewing useless crap out of petty jealousy, as he told me stories of the boy who survived and built an empire."

How sensationalist of him.

"You do understand that I wasn't alone throughout the years I grew my 'Empire,' yes?" I inquire, my warm tone clinging to every word as I slowly drift into my more investigative frame of mind.

"Do you really believe that I would be so foolish? After all, my Mother has always been three steps ahead. And as they say.

Like Mother like daughter."
