Ciel's POV
Why is it that murder brings me heartfelt joy? The rush of adrenaline boosting my every movement.
Why is it that the burial of a victim swells me with pride? As though their death was a challenge that I had won.
And why is it that my lover so enjoys watching me destroy as much as he enjoys watching me create? As though I were incapable of wrongdoing in his eyes.
I am filled with questions but the more I ponder on them, the less I seem to care about receiving the answers.
"CIEL!" I am snapped out of my daze by my blonde Matron.
"Yes? I'm sorry I wasn't listening." I state honestly, only to receive an eye roll or two.
"What I was trying to say was that I need to know the criminal backgrounds of the applicants before they come here. We shouldn't have to rely on demo-...we shouldn't have to rely on you two for protection when we are supposed to be guarding and raising these children."
"Elizabeth, my dearest cousin, you don't need our protection. In fact, you went toe to toe with Sebastian as a child and gave him a run for his money! And Finnian, you certainly know that you can hold your own in a fight. We are simply...cannon fodder if anything happens to this place. We attract attention and you take them down. You don't need protection but we'd like to provide it anyway because...we love you." Her frustration slowly fades away, mulling over my words with great care. Only for us all to be slightly surprised a moment later by my dearest husband-to-be.
"We love you very much, Lizzy." His voice holds nothing but genuine sincerity as he smiles at my darling cousin.
He's truly grown to care for someone other than myself, or our children.
I couldn't be more proud.
"Alright, fine...I see your point. After all there was a time where I did everything in my power to protect you on the Atlantic, even though you never said a word. All because I loved you and I was afraid for you, as I'm guessing you were for us and the little tykes in the next room." She gestures towards the doors, a soft smile creeping onto her lip.
"Exactly, Lizzy. It's got nothing to do with viewing you and Finny as lesser beings than us. Believe me, you will always be my much stronger sister."
"And you, my asthma prone little brother."
"Thankfully, asthma will never be an issue...neither will breathing itself but you win some, you lose some." The couple chuckles, reaching out for each other's hand. So comfortable together.
"Oh! You never told me when you're getting married! Have you decided on a date yet?" Lizzy asks excitedly, looking down at my engagement ring.
"It's going to be on my birthday."
That is when the enthusiasm depletes.
"Oh..."
"No don't be sad Lizzy, that day has been one dreaded by me for ten years. It's time that this date will finally be something to look forward to, again."
"It's beautiful, Ciel. Watching you turn your life around...I couldn't be happier for you. Truly. But how are you going to marry? You're both men...you'd be hung."
"We don't need it to be written in law, nor do we need it done by a priest. I was...I was actually hoping that you would hold the ceremony, Elizabeth. It would only be fair for the woman who has loved me for all these years to help bind us together."
"Ciel...!" She squeals as she always used to, tears filling her eyes as she gets up from her chair, half running to give me a warm hug. "Thank you so much!"
"No, Lizzy...thank you."
