Camping. We were camping. All five of us twenty year olds...camping of all things. Seriously, whose idea was this? Surprisingly enough, I was actually enjoying myself. It was great to spend time with my best friends, as they were usually away at college, as was I.
I say that we were all enjoying the time we were spending together, it had been nothing but non-stop laughs and jokes. Although, Sal had been sulking ever since he heard that we were all sleeping in one big tent. He soon perked up considerably, after Brian had suggested a game of Truth or Dare once we had eaten our dinner.
We sat ourselves down in a circle, our knees touching together, seeing as the tent was smaller when we were sitting all together. Brian volunteered to start the game, with James sitting to the right of him, his eyes gleaming cheekily.
"Yes! Okay," James began. "Brian, truth or dare?"
"Dare." Brian stated quickly without hesitation.
James glanced around the tent and then looked back at Brian.
"I dare you to kiss [Y/N] right now."
Ugh, so predictable, I thought. Brian was one of my best friends, and I definitely did not want to kiss him, but I figured it wouldn't be too bad, and so, I shifted myself to face the man. We were both blushing furiously. Brian looked half tomato at this point, so I boldly made the first move and grabbed his jumper, pulling him to me and pursing my lips.
The kiss was very awkward and wooden, neither of us, thankfully, moving to deepen the kiss. It lasted for around two seconds, and we heard the boys' wolf-whistles around us once our lips had touched. We drew back and I giggled at Brian, while we both pretended to gag. I internally sighed with relief, glad that neither Brian nor I had taken the kiss seriously.
James started bouncing in his place like a five year old and shouted out that it was his turn next. Sal's excited smile had fallen to an emotionless expression. James pushed him and exclaimed that he wanted a truth, but Sal's expression didn't change, and he asked to excuse himself from the tent. He crawled out through the tent door and quickly caught my eye, before looking away, and walking his way out from the tent.
Guilt surged through my chest, as I decided to follow after the man. That look upon his face didn't feel right when Sal wore it. I needed to talk to him, to know that he was feeling okay inside; his outside evident that something was wrong.
"Guys, I'm going to walk with Sal. It's...uh...really hot in here." I blurted out, quickly making up an excuse.
They shrugged, as Joe asked James his question. I left the tent, taking one of the plaid blankets with me, seeing as there was a cool chill in the night air. I looked around and saw Sal heading to a stack of huge flat boulders in the corner of the field we had pitched our tent in. I hurried towards him, pulling the blanket tighter around me.
"Sal!" I shouted as quietly as I could, not wanting to disturb the other campers. "Salvatore!" I shouted slightly louder, as he hadn't turned around the first time.
By now, I was gaining on him, but he had reached the rocks and kicked the bottom one, seemingly letting out anger, and then proceeded to start climbing the mound. I sighed, what was this boy doing? I sped up my pace even more, and finally, after what felt like an eternity, reached the rocks. By this time, he was on the highest one that acted like a ledge of a cliff that could hang high over a rough sea underneath, and I called to him once again.
"Sal, what are you doing?" He froze, hearing my voice, but I received no response. "Salvatore!"
I was growing impatient at his ignorance, why was he being this way? What had I done so wrong to make the guy not even want to acknowledge my presence?
