I stop listening to the reds and blues talk, jumping as I hear a loud bang.

'Hmmm.... calculating.... at that velocity and weight, they will eventually be able to break through.' Tau thought.

'Any way around that?' I asked.

'Nope. We are trapped here, due to needing to protect the artifact and there is no other doors.' Tau responded.

'Great, so we fight when they break through.' I thought in annoyance.

'Yep.' Tau responded.

"The hell are they doing out there?" Grif asked, also having jumped at the sound.

"They've been trying to blast their way in here ever since I locked it down. They're not having much luck though, ARE YOU, FUCKING ASSHOLES? The stuff looks like rock, but it's way tougher." Tucker said normally after yelling at the door like they could actually hear him.

"What's tougher than rock?" Grif asked in confused.

'Metal infused rock.' Tau thought sarcastically.

"Paper." Caboose said.

I nearly snorted.

"How the fuck should I know? Super rock? What am I, some kind of, geographist?" Tucker said, butchering the name Geologist.

"They have some kind of big machine out there." Sarge said.

"Yeah, they just got that thing, Mutey spotted it yesterday. I think they think they're gonna yank this door off with it. Not fucking happening." Tucker said.

"They wanna get their hands on that weapon?" Sarge said.

"Yeah, and we can't let them turn it on, no matter what happens." Tucker said.

"Well, why don't we just turn it on and use it against them?" Sarge said.

'Ok, now that sounds like Sarge.' Tau pointed out.

'Yep.' I replied.

"The fuck, what!? We don't know what it does! We can turn it on and it could make us all sterile." Tucker said.

'Eh, theoretically there could be an alien artifact that could do that.' Tau said.

'Thanks.' I thought sarcastically.

"Would it do that?" Grif said in horror.

"Well, the last weapon we found was designed to wipe out all organic life in a huge radius." Tucker said.

'Somehow I have a feeling Tuck has no idea what those words he said means.' I thought.

'I agree.' Tau said.

Grif whistled in shock, "Wow. ... What's a, radius?" Grif asked.

'Really, Grif, did you sleep though your math classes?' I thought.

'Probably.' Tau responded.

"I don't know, they just made me learn this crap for my dumb job. Point is, don't touch anything. You hit the wrong button or flip the wrong switch, we'll all be dead before you can say—Where's Caboose?" Tucker asked.

I blinked and looked around, suddenly noticing Caboose is gone.

'Geez, that kid can sneak away better than me and I was trained for years on that!' I thought in shock, stepping around the reds and searching for footprints in the sand.

"Uh, I don't think that's how that expression goes." Sarge said.

"No, I mean where the fuck is Caboose?" Tucker asked, watching me as I looked around for footprints.
