I stood off to the side in the shade of the wall, really kind of invisible here as I watched the reds talk. Here I was just close enough to look at the scene happening inside with my sniper rifle while listening to the reds drone on about how they felt about the situation were are in.
"Sarge, how come every time the Blues get involved in something stupid and dangerous, we get dragged along too?" Grif questioned.
'It is a confusing cycle, but I seriously think it's because you all are friends, even if you don't acknowledge that in your head.' I thought, moving towards the place we fought The Meta at, still able to hear the reds.
I began looking around, hoping for something I remember Maine by. Not The Meta.
"You know what they say. Keep your friends close and your enemies within range of your primary firearm!" Sarge said.
'I don't think that is how that phrase goes.' Tau thought.
'It's Sarge. That's answer enough.' I thought.
I spotted something and move to pick it up. I picked it up and my heart plummeted.
'How... how did I miss this before.....' I thought sadly, my mind flying back on memories....
"Damnit! Maine, how in the world are you so good at this game!" I yelled, dropping the controller down as he won another round of Mario Cart.
"Just Good." He growled out.
I sighed and shook my head when I heard the alarm for a new mission go off. I looked at Maine.
"Guess you gotta go." I said sadly.
He stood and moved to walk away before he turned to me, I tilted my head, confused by his actions.
"For You. Matching." He said, pulling out two knives. One a white and purple handle that matched my armor. The other was pure white like his. I smiled as I saw both of our names carved into them. He held out the purple and white one, which I took.
I looked, smiling softly.
"Thanks, big guy." I said, putting mine away.
I tear escaped my eye, which made me glad I was wearing a helmet. Maine's death had been rough on me, especially with me pushing the grief away so no one would learn of how it affected me.
Because, in my hand, was the knife Maine kept. The one identical to the knife I kept hidden in my armor. It was two times bigger than my knife, due to Maine's size, but the design was the same.
'You realize, Ver, that the Maine you knew died way before this point. This just shows you he was long gone before you met him again. The Maine you knew wasn't he one who died by being dragged off the ice. Don't let it tear you up.' Tau thought quietly.
'I... I know.... It's just... hard. I accepted CT's death when I found out about it, accepted North's as well. Maine's death was just.... a confusing storm of emotions.' I thought as I hid the knife on the opposite side of the other knife I kept.
'I know, but you found new friends, Ver, look to them and be happy. I am sure the Maine you knew would want that.' Tau thought.
'Ya... I'll keep it to remember the good memories of him by.' I thought quietly, moving at stand a bit of distance from the reds.
"Sir! I realize-" I heard Simmons said.
"So you can shoot em!" Sarge said, pointing his gun at both Simmons and Grif.
"... I realize that we agreed to help Wash and Carolina, but how do we know that they're gonna help us?" Simmons asked.
"What do you mean?" Grif questioned.
