Hi and welcome to this story! Back in 2019 I wrote this book. I was in the middle of a break-up and wanted to do something to keep my mind of reality. Wattpad is and was my safeplace where I could share my love for Billie and this book.
Please, please, please don't mind the writing! I was a newbie to this, dutch & got overwhelmed with the love this book got so I wanted to write more and quick. 💗
I wanna thank you for making the time to read this and hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Much love, Ilse.
"I'm so ready for this weekend." I turned the camera to selfie mode and smiled at my iPhone. I had been counting down the days for this, and honestly, I couldn't wait any longer. Attending a festival I'd dreamed of for so long felt like a dream come true. I cringed a little at how the video turned out, but I sent it to a few close friends anyway.
I spun around the room, checking my bags and making sure my outfit was still free of any Diet Coke stains. I was wearing a suit from Zara with cut-out sleeves. The flared pants made my legs look longer, and I loved the way it all came together. After double-checking everything, I grabbed my bags and headed downstairs.
Kate, my best friend, was waiting patiently on the couch. When she saw me, she rolled her eyes.
"If you're planning on being this slow the whole trip, I'm canceling it," she said, half-joking. Kate has the sassiest attitude and always knows exactly what to say—it's one of the many reasons I love her.
"Believe me, this time I'm ready."
Just then, we heard a loud noise outside. I opened the door and saw Lily waiting in her car out front.
"I can't even explain how excited I am!" she yelled, stepping out of the car to greet us.
When she hugged me, the scent of fresh roses filled the air. Her long, perfectly curled blonde hair bounced with every step, and her pink lipliner matched her tank top. Lily is the most vulnerable of the three of us—soft and confident on the outside, but deeply insecure underneath. I always feel like the big sister when it comes to her, especially with Kate around.
"Wait—double check!" I said, dropping my bags in the trunk next to theirs. I loaded the tickets on my phone and quickly went through my stuff one more time.
"Okay. We're officially ready. Let's get this party started!"
The drive took about 30 minutes—just enough time to really get in the mood. We sang along to our shuffled Spotify playlist, and my heart skipped a beat when Billie came on. Billie Eilish. The one and only. I still remember hearing her for the first time with Kate—we were in a McDonald's parking lot, eating fries and drinking milkshakes, sharing our music tastes. Kate played a track by this girl with long, blue hair who sounded like a dream. I got chills.
As I quietly sang along, I caught Kate's eyes in the rearview mirror.
"What?" I asked.
"Nothing... it's just so good, isn't it?" she said.
I smiled and nodded. "Yeah. It really is."
When we arrived at the hotel and picked up our keys, I was bursting with excitement. It was finally happening. Our room was on the top floor, with a stunning view of the California hills. My jaw dropped when we walked in. It was massive—three separate bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a spacious Scandinavian-style kitchen.
"I'm taking the room with the biggest bed—might need it," Kate said with a laugh.
"Oh my god, Kate. Please. You perv." Lily's cheeks turned bright red as she shook her head.
"That's Kate. And just so you know, that bitch is just tryna fuck," I joked, walking off to my room.
15 minutes later
While waiting for the others to finish getting ready, I stood by the window, mesmerized by the view. The sun was setting, and the city lights were starting to sparkle. Kate strutted out of her room in a black jumpsuit, her chest almost spilling out. I giggled. Then Lily emerged, looking more grounded, in a mint green top and jeans that perfectly suited her vibe.
I was wearing a white dress with long lace sleeves, tight around the hips. My long dark brown hair was curled and combed out into soft beach waves, cascading over my shoulders.
"Okay, enough waiting for today—we should go!" I announced, and we headed out.
There was a shuttle to the festival every 30 minutes, and luckily, it arrived just after we did. The festival grounds were buzzing with people, energy, and music.
"I heard Ariana Grande is performing," I said, following Kate and Lily through the crowd.
"Girl, where do you think we're going?" Kate replied, raising an eyebrow.
Did I mention Kate's sassy?
As we wandered through the crowd, I opened Instagram on my phone. My heart skipped a beat. Billie had just posted a photo—she was at Coachella. I'd completely forgotten she was going to be there. As I liked the post, Lily's voice cut through the noise.
"Lana!" she called out.
They were about ten meters ahead of me.
Shit. Focus, Lana.
Ariana's set was incredible. She hit every high note effortlessly, and her presence was electric. We sang along to every lyric, our voices hoarse by the end. After her final song, we decided to grab some food. A vegan Mexican food truck caught my eye, and everyone agreed—burritos all around.
"So I heard from a little bird that Billie's gonna perform," Lily teased as I bit into my burrito.
Kate grinned. "Lana has to see that."
"You guys like her too," I said.
"Sure, but not as much as you," Lily replied with a smirk.
"If you don't want to go, we don't have to," I lied.
Kate rolled her eyes. "C'mon, Lanabanana. You wanna see her. Lily will be a fan one day."
After finishing my burrito, I got up to toss the wrapper. My stomach was full and I was more than ready for some drinks and a wild night.
"We should take some pics in front of the Ferris wheel," I suggested, pointing at the glowing wheel in the distance.
They agreed and stood up. I got them to pose with their drinks when something—or someone—caught my attention. A girl with dark blue space buns on a tiny scooter was zipping through the crowd. Security guards chased after her, and it was hilarious.
"Lana, our picture?" Kate called out. I was too distracted. Her eyes widened when she saw the girl.
"Wait—isn't that—?"
I shook my head, already bouncing with excitement. We looked like kids, jumping around.
"Lana, you should totally get a picture with her!" Kate said, pointing at the girl.
"No... she's just trying to enjoy herself, like everyone else," I said, brushing it off. "Now, picture?" I turned the camera back on them.
They posed, though a bit disappointed. I snapped a few shots, then walked over to show them. Just then, the girl on the scooter zipped past us. She glanced over, and I smiled—trying to match her carefree vibe. She didn't say a word, just winked at me playfully. My heart dropped. My cheeks turned pale.
"Lana, you look like you've seen a ghost..." Lily said, grabbing my arm. "Are you okay?"
Am I okay?
