" When someone else's happiness is your happiness, it is love. But is love even real? "
Lana thought she found the love of her life, but it looked like things were getting rocky from there. Will their relationship survive? Or...
"Don't you think we should get to know each other better?"
The way she speaks, her eyes locked on mine, and the way she licks her lips after saying that—it gives me goosebumps all over. She notices. Her lips curl into a smile; she knew exactly what she was doing.
"Maybe... yes. It's just that I'm not that easy," I said, making sure she understands while my body relaxes. Calm down, Lana. It's just Billie. She's also just a human being... who happens to be famous. For a second, I regret saying that, but she sits down beside me, shrugging her shoulders.
"I like deep conversations. Tell me about you—your life," she says, eyes meeting mine, sending my stomach straight to my toes. "Uhm..." I clear my throat. "I'm from California. I live on my own. My mom lives down the street—she has a cat. I don't. I'm more of a dog person." Out of the corner of my eye, I notice people walking by, clearly recognizing Billie and trying hard to get her attention. I cannot blame them. I'd probably do the same. "I work at a financial office. Full-time, 8 AM to 7 PM. It can be tough and lonely sometimes, but it pays the bills and lets me enjoy my weekends." Billie didn't take her eyes off me. As I finished, she giggles. "God, that sounds so motherfucking boring."
"Sometimes, yeah. But I actually like my job," I say, twirling a lock of hair around my finger, feeling a little awkward after her blunt honesty.
"I could tell you about me," she says frowning slightly, "but it seems like you've already got everything figured out."
"I don't know everything."
"You know a lot," she says. I share a lot with the media."
"I mean... I know a lot because I'm a huge fan." I trail off, looking into the distance, hair still tangled around my finger. I hope I wasn't coming off too intense for her.
"That's okay. Understandable," she says, nodding her head as she's fiddling with the chains around her neck. "Okay... I can tell you more about me. But first I need to know if I can trust you, Lana." She raises an eyebrow, scanning my body language. "I could just say you can trust me, but that'd be too easy," I replied.
"Looks like we'll have to meet again."
I try to play it cool, but the butterflies in my stomach are going wild. "Sure thing."
Billie stands up and holds out her hand. I gently take it, giving a small squeeze in gratitude.
"I'm sorry, but I have to head out already. But we will meet again. Tomorrow night? After my second show?" Her blue eyes lock with mine—they are dreamy enough to make me faint right there. "I think I can make that work," I smile, stepping back, already missing her.
As we leave the garden, I hesitate—how do I say goodbye? "It was really nice meeting you and talking about our lives. Thanks, Billie."
"God, you're so fucking awkward, dude." She laughs pulling me in closely for a hug. I laugh with her, apologizing.
"See you tomorrow, Bill."
"See you tomorrow, Lanabanana," she teases, walking away. Her bodyguards are waiting at the entrance, and as soon as she reaches them, they leave. A swarm of girls follow them, taking pictures and screaming her name.
I grab my phone and text Lily to meet up for another round of festival fun.

Five hours later
We'reeating dinner at a Mexican spot downtown L.A. I was mid-bite into my burrito when Kate suddenly stands up. "Gotta go, guys." She pulls out her wallet and drops some money on the table. "I'll be back at the hotel by 10." "Where are you going?" Lily asks politely. Kate winks at us. We both know exactly what that means. Kate had been through a lot lately—abusive exes, toxic breakups, and pressure to use drugs. Since losing her virginity, she has a sky-high sex drive. Hookups were her thing. Not ours. We are content just hanging out at a restaurant.
Lily pulls out a deck of cards, and we play a few rounds. We made a deal: the loser had to buy the next drink. Of course, I lose. Lily's too clever. While sipping our drinks, Lily stares at me seriously."So... how was it?" "How was what?" I ask back, pretending not to understand, tossing her a few cards. "Lana, come on. I'm not asking if you got laid like Kate," she laughs out loud. "It was nice. Relaxing. I was really nervous, though,"
"Do you think she wants to be your friend... or something else?"
"Honestly? I don't know. I'm not sure what she wants. But we're meeting again. Tomorrow. After her show." I smile just thinking about it.
"You are crushing so hard."
"I am." I admit.
Lily stands up, I insist on paying for dinner. She waves me off, grabbing Kate's money. "It's on us," she smiles, signaling the waiter.
It's still early, and a few stores are open—like Sephora, our favorite. We went in and practically raid the place: Kat Von D lip kits, Fenty highlighters, Anastasia bronzers—you name it. While Lily is distracted, I slip a few items out of her basket and pay for them with my own money- a little surprise gift. When she realizes, she looks at me, confused.
"I'm such a dork. I think I lost some of my stuff... now I can't find that lipstick shade—"
"Here," I said, handing her a Sephora bag.
"A gift."
Before she could say anything, I walk toward the exit. "Last one to the hotel is a loser!" I shout, breaking into a run. Lily quickly follows. I make it back first, completely out of breath.
"Girl, I have to... oof..." Lily gasps, clutching her chest. "I don't care if I look stupid. Thank you, seriously. You're too sweet."
"Looks like I almost killed you. Think twice next time," I joke, grabbing her hand as we walk into the hotel. Back in our room, we chang into PJs, grab wine and chips, and turn on the TV. I grabbed my phone and post a new picture on Instagram.
