Dean heard a crash in the kitchen and immediately went to check it out, gun in hand. He opened the door to find himself there.
"Who are you?" The real him asked.
"Who do I look like? I'm you from the future."
"Oh, god. More time travel." Present-Day Dean lowered his gun.
"Really? You believe me just like that?"
"I'd believe anything at this point. Figured you'd guess that."
"What year is it?"
"Late 2014."
"Oh, I've gone back five years then."
"More to the point, why are you here?"
"It's about Cas. You need to tell him how you feel."
"Why, you know I can't."
"I know, I know, chick flick moments. Just trust me when I tell you, you have got to tell him."
"Why don't you tell him? In your own time?"
Future Dean stared down at his feet. "Because it's too late for me."
Dean's face lost all expression. "What does that mean?" He spoke through gritted teeth.
A tear ran down Future Dean's cheek. "He... he killed himself. Because he thought we didn't love him."
"No," Present-Day Dean deadpanned. "No, I refuse to believe that. Cas wouldn't... he wouldn't kill himself."
"Believe whatever you want, but that's what happened, and that's what's gonna happen if you don't do something about it. He loves you, you love him. Don't make the same mistakes I made."
Present-Day Dean took his words to heart. When Future Him returned to his own time, he went and found Cas in the library.
"Cas, can we talk?"
"Of course, Dean. You know I enjoy our talks."
He paused, suddenly unsure of himself. But he knew what he had to do. "Cas, I'm in love with you."
Cas was shocked, he could tell. "Dean-"
"Let me say this, man. I have been so in love with you for such a long time, and I realize now that I'm not gonna have all the time in the world to tell you that, and I am sorry that I haven't told you sooner. Do you love me, Cas?"
He barely got the words off his lips before Cas kissed him. He cupped Dean's face in his hands while Dean had his hands resting on Cas's shoulders.
They separated, foreheads touching, eyes meeting one another.
"I'll take that as a yes, then." Dean chuckled softly.
"Good. Because I do love you. I have for a very long time."
"I'm sorry I took so long to tell you."
"It doesn't matter. What's matters is that you told me. That took a lot of courage."
"You know me. Courage is my middle name."
"Yes, that is evident. Seeing how it took you five years to confess your emotions, I'm surprised you have not yet been nominated as the bravest person on earth."
Dean chuckled. "Oh, look at you, Mr. Sass."
"There is more where that came from, Dean. Just stick around to see it."
"Wait, how'd you know I've felt this way for five years?"
Cas shrugged. "Call it intuition."
"You read my mind, didn't you?"
"Maybe." They both laughed.
"I really should've told you sooner, shouldn't I?"
"That would have been a wise decision, yes."
They kept talking for a while, stopping to kiss every now and then. All because of guidance from a "friend".
