Dean and Cas were talking in the bunker, and the subject of flying came up. "You don't really 'fly' fly, you just sorta teleport." Dean stated.
"We do fly, just at high speeds."
Dean was still confused. "You don't even have wings."
"We do, but humans are unable to perceive them. You can only see them if we let you."
"Really? Then let me see them."
Cas hesitated, but only for a moment. He touched his index and middle fingers to Dean's forehead, allowing him to see his wings. They were at least six feet long, deep black like a raven. Dean stared in awe, taken aback by Cas's beautiful wings.
"Woah," was his response. He wasn't sure what else to say.
"No other human has seen my wings before."
Dean grinned. "So what you're saying is... I'm your first."
Cas tilted his head, scrunching his eyebrows together. "Is that a reference I don't understand?"
He chuckled. "You could say that. But this doesn't prove you can fly." He said this mostly because he was deeply curious to see what Cas looked like when he was flying.
"Do you require further evidence?"
"Yeah, I think I do."
They both stood there, almost in a staring contest, until Cas broke the silence. "I'll show you then."
Suddenly, they were outside, and Dean felt a soft gust of wind from Cas's wings when they flew. "Dean, I believe you have a phobia of flying, correct?"
"Yeah-" He suddenly realized what was going on and he paled. "I know what you're thinking and I really don't like it."
"You said you wanted proof, correct?"
"Well yeah, but-"
"Then trust me."
Dean was very hesitant. He had a crippling phobia of flying, there was no denying that. What Cas was suggesting was crazy. Absolutely crazy. At the same time, a flight with Cas didn't sound all that bad. Unless you have a horrible flying phobia. Truth be told, he was wondering just how far he'd go to be close to Cas. He had undeniable feelings for him, he has for a while now, but was too scared to confess. And flying. Can't forget the flying.
Phobia of flying, feelings for Cas, phobia of flying, feelings for Cas, phobia of flying, feelings for Cas. Eventually, the feelings for Cas won.
"Fine. I guess."
Cas turned so his back faced Dean. "Hold on to me and don't let go."
Dean did this and scoffed. "Gee, you think?"
He saw Cas raise his wings, about to take flight, and he squeezed his eyes shut. He just wouldn't think about it. As long as he didn't think about it, it wouldn't be as bad. Out of sight, out of mind. Right?
"O-okay, Cas. I - I believe you now. We can... land."
Cas grinned a slight. "You should enjoy the view, Dean. This is a once in a lifetime experience."
"I'm starting to think you don't get how phobias work." A thought suddenly occurred to him. "Hey, don't you think people will be a bit suspicious when they see freaking Bird Man flying through the air?"
"I have cloaked us. No one will see us."
"Of course. Cloaking. Brilliant."
He wasn't sure what he was thinking, if he even was thinking, but for whatever reason, he decided to look down.
Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap.
"Cas!" He yelped. "I want down now."
"Fine. We will be down momentarily."
"Thank you," he squeaked.
They landed on a grassy hilltop, where Dean immediately collapsed to the ground. "Oh sweet merciful land!" He exclaimed, damn near hugging the earth.
Cas merely sat, looking out upon the horizon. He viewed the sunset that turned the sky a bright vermillion. "Do you ever stop to watch the sun set? It is a most beautiful sight."
"Not always. Sometimes I guess." He adjusted himself so he sat beside Cas. He watched the sunset alongside him. "It really is beautiful."
They sat there for a while, until Dean felt Cas's wing wrap around him. He blushed darkly, freaking out internally a little bit. He glanced at Cas's wing, curled around him like a feathery blanket. Was Cas coming onto him?
He looked over at him as he watched the horizon, feeling the urge to confess his feelings. It was the perfect atmosphere; the sunset, the hilltop, it was perfect. He had to go for it. But... what would he say? What could he say? After all these years?
"Um... Cas?"
He looked to the green eyed hunter. "Yes, Dean?"
He choked on his own throat. But he had to say something. Speak, man! "I like you." Really smooth, genius.
Cas gave a confused face. "I am aware. We do share a profound bond."
Dean shook his head. "N-no. I mean... I like you. God, I suck at this. Uh... I have... feelings for you. I mean...-"
"Romantically?"
Dean nodded. "Yep." He looked down at his hands. "I'm so stupid, I just thought, I mean with the sunset and the-" He stopped short when he felt a kiss planted on his cheek. He blanched, realizing Cas just did that. He looked over at him, into his electric blue eyes.
Cas gave a smile. "I have romantic feelings for you as well, Dean."
Dean was in shock. He must have been dreaming. But it was too real to be a dream. But it was too god to be true. He decided, even if it was a dream, it was a pretty damn good dream that he wasn't going to waste. He took Cas's hand, their fingers interlocking, and felt Cas rest his head on his shoulder. This was such a magical moment, and he still couldn't believe it. There was only one thing.
"Cas?"
"Yes, Dean?"
"How are we gonna get back to the bunker?"
(A/N: WELL THAT TURNED OUT FLUFFIER THAN I THOUGHT 😍😍😍
I was inspired to write this by fanart that should be featured above. It was so good and the lightbulb flickered on 💡
So I published Zero Days Clean, and added another chapter. Wow I'm getting a lot of writing done today. I'm so proud 💙
But geez there's so much drama between Cas and Dean in this fanfic and I just wow. It's heartbreakingly beautiful.
It was also inspired by a neat person named Bee, who posted this pic on their Instagram, but idk what their username is on here so 😕 (they're @//angel_with_a_pen on IG).
Anywho, imma just go now. Bai!
Peace Off my Mini Marshminions!)
