Dean carried the box of fireworks, leading Cas to the bunker's backyard.

"Dean, what are we doing?" Cas must have asked this at least a hundred times.

"You'll see." Was Dean's response for the hundredth time.

He set the box on the ground, setting up three of the fireworks. He took his lighter and lit them, telling Cas to stand back. Soon the fireworks shot through the air and exploded up above, lighting up the starry night sky in a brocade effect.

They both smiled as the sky was lit up with blue, red, and green. "Dean, this is wonderful."

"Happy Fourth of July, Cas." Dean looked over at the ex angel, still smiling.

They kept setting off fireworks, creating peony and pistil and chrysanthemum effects. Dean's favorite was the tail effect, while Cas's was, of course, the bee effect. (A/N: My favorite is the spinner effect. Look these up, they're real.)

As the final fireworks were set off, Dean and Cas's eyes met, and Dean realized that no firework in the sky could compare to how bright and beautiful Cas's eyes were. (A/N: I am so sorry to anyone who just vomited from that 😷)

Their fingers suddenly brushed against each other, causing Dean to blush and look away. But he then realized that Cas had taken his hand in his own. He looked upon the angel's face, where there was a bright smile. This was a rare sight, as Cas was usually so stoic.

"You make me very happy, Dean. Thank you for that."

Dean returned the smile, finding that he was very happy too. "You're welcome, Cas."

There was something about the way that Cas looked at him, the way he always looked at him. It made him want to kiss him, though he knew he was straight. At least, that's what he told himself. Perhaps it was just his way of making sure he kept his hands off him. Though now he knew, there was no fighting it.

He took his free hand and brushed it across Cas's face, bringing their lips together. He never thought he'd do this, yet here he was, kissing the one person he truly wanted to kiss. The only person he'd ever want to kiss. The one with the sweetest smile and the bluest eyes and the purest, warmest heart. To be with him was true bliss, and it was all Dean could ever want.

Dean realized he had to stop kissing Cas, because he couldn't help but smile. This was the best kind of kiss. And he realized that Cas was smiling, too.

They spent most of the night lying in the grass, looking up at the stars and spotting constellations. They both noticed several fireflies flitting about in the warm July air, and Dean suddenly had a song in his head. (A/N: this song isn't real, it's one that I'm writing, so just imagine a light tune and piano. And it's a work in progress so don't judge. But if you do, judge fairly.)

When I look into your eyes, I see a bright full moon,

And your smile shines brighter than the stars.

You know that I love you, and everything you do,

Because you're special just the way you are.

Dean knew just how special Cas was to him, and he'd never let that feeling go. There was nothing he wouldn't do for his angel.

Every night, I see you in my dreams,

Because you chase the bad ones away.

You make me want to scream out just how much I love you,

You make me wanna sing, each and every day.

Oh, I think I'm falling in love,

And, oh, I think I love it.

Oh, I think, I'm falling in love with you,

And, oh, I can't rise above it.

Dean knew he was falling in love. And he knew he loved it.

You're more beautiful,

Than blooming May flowers.

And with you I would spend,

All of my hours.

I stole your heart,

Then you stole mine,

And when I look into your eyes,

It's like,

Fireflies in July.

Oh, oh, fireflies in July.

Dean would spend the rest of his life with Cas. There was nothing he wouldn't do for this special little angel with a trench coat. He loved him to the moon and back, and there wasn't a force on planet Earth that could change that.

"I love you, Cas." He murmured.

Cas brought their lips together, kissing him tenderly before whispering in response, "I know."

(A/N: I hope you liked that short (but sweet) one shot!

Yeah, I don't really know where that song came from, but I literally just wrote it on the spot. Maybe I'll make something out of it, I dunno.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY !! 🇺🇸 🎉🎈🎊🎈🎉 🇺🇸

It's like almost 3 am for me 😝
